CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, March 29, 2023 12:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Brad Dunnells, Nicole Seitz, Bren Monteiro, Corey Alston, Charles Lauer Absent: Katherine Whitaker Staff Present: Nicole Harvey, Tracy Richter Called to order at 12:01 pm 1. Approval of Minutes from the March 01, 2023 meeting Motion to approve by Mr. Alston with a second by Ms. Monterio; Passed Unanimously 2. Public Comments Marie Louise Moreto is the President of Mount Pleasant Community Arts Center. Ms. Moreto offered to work with the commission on research for the new arts center. 3. Introduction of New Members Ms. Harvey introduced Ms. Nicole Seitz and Mr. Charles “Chuck” Lauer. The third seat declined and will be awarded at the April Council Meeting. Both members introduced themselves. 4. Report from Subcommittees Mr. Dunnells motioned to move b. Performing Arts to the a. position on the agenda; Ms. Monteiro seconded. Passed Unanimously. Performing Arts Ms. Monteiro gave a background for the new members, an update on the search for the proposed performing arts center, and thoughts on how to proceed. There is discussion. b. Town Hall Art Ms. Harvey informed the Commission that April 20th at 5:00pm will be the next Mayors Art Reception. Ms. Harvey presented a slide show of the submitted art. All submissions were accepted. c. Marketing Ms. Harvey reminded the Commission about the Blessing of the Fleet and will send out a sign-up sheet for CAP to have a table. Ms. Monteiro explained the table set up to the new members. There is discussion regarding plans for the Blessing of the Fleet. Ms. Harvey invited the Commissioners to a new event on Wednesday, April 26 at Alhambra Hall called Art of the Creek. The event begins at 6:00pm. d. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project Mr. Alston introduced the sweetgrass basket stand project to the new commission members and gave an update on where the project stands. There is discussion about the history and status of the art. There is discussion about how to show stands are visible to passing cars and how to advertise. Mr. Alston proposed the next workdays for stands on April 22nd and in June. 5. New Business 6.
