CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, May 3, 2023 12:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Kathryn Whitaker (Chair); Corey Alston; Chase Barrett; Nicole Seitz; Bren Monteiro; Charles Lauer Absent: Brad Dunnells Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Steve Gergick Call to order at 12:05 pm 1. Approval of Minutes from the March 29, 2023 meeting Ms. Monteiro motioned to approve, and Ms. Seitz seconded; Passed Unanimously. 2. Public Comments Shari Rash from Cario PTSO Committee explained she is working on beautification of the campus. Ms. Rash is asking for help with painting murals or an oyster shell. Ms. Monteiro inquired about the general idea in terms of artists. There is discussion about the timeline. Ms. Harvey explained the current conversations. 3. Subcommittee Member Assignments Ms. Harvey presented the Subcommittee member assignments and there was discussion. 4. Budget Review Ms. Whitaker introduced the budget process and Ms. Harvey presented the current budget. Mr. Gergick explained the budget approval process. There was a discussion. Performing/Community Arts Ms. Whitaker gave an update on the performing arts project. Ms. Harvey presented a folder containing brainstorming ideas on the proposed arts center. There is discussion about how to disseminate the information and make it cohesive and organized enough to get public input. Carol Hallman addressed the Commission. Ms. Whitaker mentioned the Wando High School agreement. Ms. Harvey asked the topic to move to the subcommittee. b. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project There was a discussion on summer work on the sweetgrass basket stands. There is a discussion regarding summer meeting. There is discussion regarding the Sweetgrass Festival. c. Marketing No discussion. 6. New Business Ms. Whitaker mentioned the Cario project. Ms. Hallman addressed the Cultural Arts facility. There is discussion.
