CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, November 1, 2023 12:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES Present: Brad Dunnells, Co-Chair; Bren Romano Monteiro; Nicole Seitz; Corey Alston Absent: Kathryn Whitaker, Chair; Chuck Lauer; Chase Barrett Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Danielle Fraser; Tracy Richter The Meeting was called to order at 12:03 p.m. 1. Approval of Minutes from the October 4, 2023 meeting Ms. Monteiro Romano motioned to approve and was seconded by Mr. Alston. 2. Public Comments Mr. David Quick of 1502 Village Square noted the start of Indigenous Peoples’ History Month and made a request of the Commission to work with the Historical Commission on programming ideas to honor Indigenous Peoples’ History Month next year. Discussion followed. 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Sweetgrass Basket Stand Project Mr. Alston provided an update on the recent volunteer meeting to paint basket stands at Old Georgetown Road and some others. Mr. Alston also noted projects that still need to be completed, and suggested dates for the next volunteer meeting to complete them. Discussion followed. b. Ms. Harvey stated that the selection of artwork was narrowed down for the Commission to review and choose from. Discussion of the artwork and traffic box locations followed. c. Performing Arts Ms. Harvey stated that the Community Arts Center will be on the agenda for discussion at the Heath, Recreation & Events Committee meeting on Monday, November 6. Discussion followed. d. Marketing Mr. Alston would like the Culture, Arts & Pride Commission to have an official seal to mark projects that CAP has managed. Discussion followed. 4. New Business Ms. Harvey noted the upcoming Holiday Parade and Mayor’s Reception. 5.
