CULTURE, ARTS & PRIDE COMMISSION Wednesday, November 29, 2023 12:00 PM Municipal Complex, Committee Meeting Room (3300) 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Kathryn Whitaker, Chair; Brad Dunnells, Co-Chair; Bren Romano-Monteiro; Nicole Seitz; Chuck Lauer Absent: Chase Barrett; Corey Alston Staff Present: Nicole Harvey; Danielle Fraser; Tracy Richter Called to order at 12:05 PM. 1. Approval of Minutes from the November 1, 2023 meeting Ms. Romano-Monteiro motioned to approve the minutes and Ms. Seitz seconded the motion. 2. Public Comments There were no public comments. 3. Report from Subcommittees a. Town Hall Art Ms. Harvey noted that there were 74 art submissions by 31 artists, and 10 pieces are to be eliminated. Discussion of artwork followed. b. Community Arts Ms. Harvey and Ms. Whitaker provided an update on the HREC Committee and Town Council discussion of the proposed Community Arts Center and the proposed RFP. Discussion followed. c. Art on the Half Shell Telephone (843) 884-8517 - Fax (843) 856-2180 www.tompsc.com  Ms. Harvey stated that shells need to be ordered from the fabricator and the Commission will be selecting artwork for them in February. Based on a budget of $24,000, the Commission needs to determine how many shells to order at an approximate cost of $2,000 per shell. There was discussion regarding the placement of new shells. Ms. Whitaker made a motion to purchase five shells, and after further discussion, amended the motion to purchase seven shells. There was a vote and all were in favor of the motion. d. Marketing Ms. Harvey noted that CAP will not have a float in the parade this year. There is a long wait list for parade entries due to limited space. 4. New Business The Mayor’s Music and Art Reception will be held on December 14 from 4:30-6:00 PM. Ms. Harvey stated that this meeting will be Danielle Fraser’s final meeting. Ms. Whitaker asked if the CAP Commission would be willing to promote HALO’s Home for the Holidays performance on social media. Ms. Harvey agreed to share their posts.
