TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL COMMISSION VIDEO CONFERENCE MEETING DECEMBER 10, 2020 MINUTES YouTube Streaming Link: https://youtu.be/V5lUP-_3psE Present: Richard Gutowski, Chair, Deborah Sutherland, Courtney Theis, Theresa Gordon, Bryan Blalock. Absent: Patrick Morrissey. Staff: Kate Miller, Lynnette Lynes Mr. Gutowski called the meeting to order at 8:00 am. I. Approval of Agenda Ms. Sutherland moved for approval. Ms. Gordon seconded the motion. All in favor. II. Approval of Minutes – November 12, 2020 Meeting Ms. Theis moved for approval. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. III. Public Comment There being no comments, Mr. Gutowski continued with the agenda. IV. Staff Update Ms. Miller updated the Commission. She stated that she was contacted regarding the Scanlonville monument and stated that the Commission should further discuss that at their next meeting. She stated that she also received a request for a historical marker for Miriam Brown and stated that this could be further discussed at the next meeting. The Commission agreed to discuss this item at next month’s meeting. V. Committee Action Items A. Public Education Committee 1. Discuss and Approve Black History Month Events and Fees Mr. Gutowski updated that Commission on the Black History Month events. Mr. Gotowski moved for approval of an honorarium for the February 20 and February 27th events in the amount of $250 each. Ms. Sutherland th seconded the motion. All in favor. Mr. Gutowski moved for approval for advertising for the Black History Month events up to $500. Ms. Gordon seconded the motion. All in favor. Historical Commission December 10, 2020 Page 2 of 3 B. Special Collection Committee 1. Vote on collected Covid-19 related newspapers Ms. Miller reviewed the newspaper collection. Ms. Gordon moved for approval to discard the collected newspaper articles and not retain as historic documents. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. C. Tourism Committee 1. Approve Passport Program Design 2. Approve Brochure Ms. Miller reviewed the passport program and brochure with the Commission. Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the brochure as presented. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the program design as presented. Ms. Gordon seconded the motion. All in favor. 3. Approve History on Tap! Video Ms. Gordon stated that the video has been completed and additional transitions were added. Ms. Theis moved for approval of the video. Ms. Sutherland seconded the motion. All in favor. 4. Discuss outreach action and promotion for Passport Program The Commission discussed promotion ideas for the Passport Program. The Commission agreed that digital promotion should be done at this time with printing of information discussed at a future meeting. D. Organization and Administration Committee Ms. Theis updated the Commission on the budget. Ms. Gordon moved for approval up to $50 for thank you gift to Mr. Ed Lee for his help with Black History Month. Ms. Theis seconded the motion. All in favor. VI. Discussion of Next Month’s Agenda Items Ms. Sutherland moved for approval of the following items to be included on next month’s agenda: ➢ Discussion of Scanlonville Monument Historical Commission December 10, 2020 Page 3 of 3 ➢ Discussion of possible Miriam Brown marker ➢ Discussion of budget and possible new historical markers ➢ Discussion of Annual Meeting Dates and Times Ms. Theis seconded the motion.
