TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA MOUNT PLEASANT YOUTH COUNCIL Thursday, October 15, 2020 5:00 PM Mount Pleasant Municipal Complex Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Ms. Sims called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Myles Chisolm, Ms. Cally DeMoura, Ms. Josie Massanet, Ms. Isabel Raykova, Mr. McClain Stocklosa, Ms. Abby Sullivan, Ms. Eliza Taylor and Mr. Chad Weis were all present. Mr. Walker Carswell, Mr. Ethan Curb and Ms. Isabelle Turner were all absent. 1. Public Comments There were no public comments. 2. Approval of the minutes from the September 17, 2020 meeting Ms. Sullivan moved for approval, seconded by Ms. Massenet. All present voted in favor. Ms. Sims stated she would like to review the priority projects list next to give the other Youth Council Members time to arrive before voting for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions was held. The Youth Council Members concurred with amending the agenda. 3. Update on priority projects Youth Council 2020-2021 Projects • *Mental Health Awareness & Assistance • Suicide awareness & prevention • Free resources for students • Cultural Festival  Mount Pleasant Youth Council October 15, 2020 Page 2 of 3 • In conjunction with CAP Commission • Possibly include non-competitive sports offering during this event • Add in charity component • Teen Drug Use: Vaping • Human Trafficking Awareness • Outreach re: socioeconomic diversity in schools • College fair/ assistance with college applications • Collaboration with libraries • Shem Creek cleanup event/oyster re-nourishment • Community-wide clean-up/education campaign • Various social media campaigns 4. Voting for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions Ms. Sims stated the speeches for the Chair position would be given first. Ms. Massanet outlined why she should be elected as Chair. Mr. Chisolm outlined why he should be elected as Chair. Ms. Sims stated the speeches for the Vice-Chair position would be given next. Ms. Taylor outlined why she should be elected as Vice- Chair. Ms. Sullivan outlined why she should be elected as Vice- Chair. Ms. DeMoura outlined why she should be elected as Vice- Chair. Ms. Sims asked the Youth Council Members to cast their ballots for the Chair and Vice-Chair positions.  Mount Pleasant Youth Council October 15, 2020 Page 3 of 3 Ms. Sims counted the ballots and announced that Ms. Massenet was elected Chair and Ms. Taylor was elected Vice- Chair. 5.
