MOUNT PLEASANT YOUTH COUNCIL Thursday, December 8, 2022 5:00 PM Mount Pleasant Municipal Complex Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 MINUTES Ms. Jones called the meeting to order at 5:09 p.m. Brooker Hampton, Evan Curb, Garrett Griffin, Grace Griffin, Cam Milewski, Rucker Rowan, Ainsley Scarlett, Addie Utsey and Lane Yarbrough were all present. Annie Cunnane and Chad Weis were absent. 1. Public Comments Chris Swalhah, Planner with the Town of Mount Pleasant introduced himself and said he would be involved with Youth Council moving forward. He said he was looking forward to working with the group. 2. Approval of the November 3, 2022 Meeting Minutes Ms. Jones moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Ms. Griffin. All present voted in favor. 3. Discuss Priority Projects Ms. Griffin said they had collected a good number of toiletries and will be scheduling a packing party soon, most likely in the Academic Magnet or East Cooper Palmetto Christian Academy gymnasium, the first or second weekend of January. She asked if any of the other schools had collected toiletries to please let her know so that pick up can be arranged. Ms. Jones asked if the packing parties were for Youth Council members or open to anyone. Ms. Garrett said it is open to anyone but held to a maximum of twenty-five people.  Ms. Jones said with respect to cards for Meals on Wheels there have been several collected. She asked the members to distribute supplies to study halls and ask students to make cards. Service hours would be given for those who made cards. Ms. Steele stated Meals on Wheels would be picking up the cards on December 14. Ms. Miller stated one of the projects identified was working at the Charleston Animal Society. They have given January 29, February 12 or March 5 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. as possible volunteer dates. She said Youth Council Members would need to decide on a date and let her know at the January meeting. Ms. Jones said one of the things Youth Council was tasked to do is attend a Town Council Meeting and she thought it would be good to try and attend as a group. Ms. Miller said Davay Dandy in the Stormwater Department would be presenting to Youth Council in January and will be working to organize a marsh sweep. Ms. Jones asked everyone to send her their picture, name, school, grade and other interesting information to her so she can update the Instagram account. Ms. Griffin asked everyone to follow the Instagram account. 4.
