TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION Thursday, September 15, 2022 1:00pm Municipal Complex Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 AMENDED AGENDA *Agenda was amended only to reflect a room change from the Police Training Room to Council Chambers Present: Perry Rourk, Chair; Tripp Cuttino; Frederick Rodewoldt; Ken Ayoub; Keely Enright, April Gift, Kevin Kollegger (attended by Teams) Absent: Michelle Cormack; Renken Carlin, Thomasena Stokes- Marshall, John Dodds, Greer Hanlon, Staff: Steve Gergick, Marcy Cotov, James Aton I. Call to Order ➢ Mr. Rourk called the meeting to order at 1:00pm II. Public Comments ➢ Mr. Rourk calls for Public Comment ➢ Daniel Brownstein of Rifle Range Road in Quail Hall Subdivision voices his support for referendum. o Mr. Ayoub and Mr. Brownstein talk about information being discussed publicly. ➢ John Iacofano of 388 Overseer Place spoke regarding volunteering and the need for marketing materials. III. Staff Presentation of Information on Recreation Referendum ➢ Mr. Gergick introduces presenters ➢ Marcy Cotov speaks on how funding works and impacts of the referendum. Mr. Ayoub and Mr. Rourk clarifies debt milage. Two inaudible questions are asked and answered. ➢ Mr. Gergick continues explaining the potential projects proposed in the referendum. ➢ Mr. Rourk asks funding questions to James Aton regarding the project for Mount Pleasant Way ➢ Mr. Gergick completes sideshow presentation regarding referendum projects and takes questions: o Ms. Enright asks for clarification on the multipurpose rooms. Mr. Gergick speaks on two specific spaces planned and how they are designed for use. o Mr. Rourk offers clarification of and potential use of 10,000 square foot space. Mr. Gergick shows a diagram for the gymnasium in question. There is discussion on how to allow use of the space. o Mr. Rourk and Mr. Gergick clarify the use of the space for volleyball, football, and other sports. o Mr. Rourk asks for clarification on pool upgrades and the current budget. Mr. Gergick explains that the current budget does not have plans other than upkeep. o Mr. Rodewoldt asks about the lack of diamond fields. Mr. Gergick explains there are plans at Carolina Park for diamonds to be constructed as well as potential plans at the Cario School Field for grass fields. o Mr. Ayoub seeks clarification on who are the facilities being built for in terms of residents versus non-residents. Mr. Gergick explains the intention is to use the fields as they are currently being used for MPRD programs as well as rental to club teams. o Mr. Ayoub seeks clarification on the use of the multipurpose building and what specifically goes into the building. Mr. Rourk explains the referendum leaves it fairly open as of now to seek public input. o Mr. Rodewoldt asks if there is room for expansion of gymnasium. Mr. Gergick explains there would have to be approval by council. o Mr. Rourk seeks clarification on if a sidewalk is planned the roadway on Rifle Range Road. Mr. Gergick refers to Mr. Aton who explains there are multiuse paths planned. o Ms. Gift asks about tennis and pickleball plans. Mr. Gergick explains they are in the plans. Ms. Gift asks for information to be provided on how many teams were turned away due to space capacity as well as with school league. o Mr. Ayoub asks to be provided with plans for expansion of Kerr Tennis Center from Mr. Gergick. o Mr. Rourk asks to be provided with survey of wetlands and high ground for Rifle Range property. Mr. Rourk clarifies the split between the total acreage of Town of Mount Pleasant property and Charleston Country Parks property. Mr. Gergick explains the purpose and specifics of the properties. o Mr. Rourk informs the commission members to send all agenda items they would like included to himself and Mr. Gergick. o Mr. Gergick points out public input survey results collected over the years. • Mr. Gergick clarifies the next meeting will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022. IV. Adjourn There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:00pm
