TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION Tuesday September 19, 2023, 1:00pm Council Chambers 100 Ann Edwards Lane Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 Minutes Present: Perry Rourk, Chair; Tripp Cuttino; Ken Ayoub; Keely Enright; Renken Carlin; Michelle Cormack; April Gift; Greer Hanlon (remote) Absent: Frederick Rodewoldt; Kevin Kollegger; John Dodds, Lynne Moore Staff Present: Steve Gergick, Jimmy Millar, Matt Hansen I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 1:01pm. II. Approval of minutes from the August 22, 2023 Recreation Advisory Commission Meeting Ms. Carlin motioned to approve and seconded by Ms. Cormack; all in favor. III. Update on CCSD Facility Use Agreement Mr. Gergick provided an update on the Charleston County School District (CCSD) Facility Use Agreement. IV. Update on recommendation to HRE Committee regarding “open space” use at Faison Rd. Mr. Rourk provided a summary of previous discussion. Mr. Gergick provided an update on the recommendation to HRE Committee regarding “open space” use at Faison Rd. Mr. Ayoub asked about the development process and Mr. Gergick responded. Discussion followed. V. Update on MPRD Capital and Maintenance Projects  Mr. Gergick gave an update on the project at Memorial Waterfront Park. Mr. Gergick updated the Commission on the Carolina Park project. Mr. Millar provided specific updates regarding outstanding work to be completed. Mr. Gergick provided an update on the Rifle Range Road project. Mr. Gergick continued with updates on the Park West Pool renovation. Mr. Gergick updated the Commission on the project at the Whipple Road tennis facility. Mr. Hansen provided a brief update. Mr. Gergick and Mr. Millar advised that the Jones Center basketball court flooring will be resurfaced in the fall. Mr. Rourk asked about the type of flooring material and Mr. Millar responded. Mr. Gergick stated that he has received requests for wooden floors at the Rifle Range Road gym. Discussion followed. Mr. Rourk asked about the time frame for the Rifle Range Road project. Mr. Gergick responded. Discussion followed. Mr. Ayoub asked about coordination with PRC. Mr. Gergick responded. Discussion followed. Ms. Gift asked for an update on the time frame for the Whipple Road tennis facility project. Mr. Gergick responded. Mr. Gergick provided the Commission with a summary of the success of 2023 Summer Camps and Programs. Discussion followed and Mr. Rourk commended Mr. Gergick and the Department of Recreation. Ms. Gift asked if there are scholarships available. Mr. Gergick responded that there are. Discussion followed. Ms. Cormack stated that Aquatics would also be interested in contributing to scholarships. Mr. Rourk asked about the impact of new facilities on enrollment for Summer Camps and Programs. Mr. Gergick responded. Discussion followed. Mr. Rourk commented on positive feedback he received on the appearance of Patriot’s Point.  VI. Adjourn The meeting was adjourned at 1:33pm.
