MINUTES
Members Present: Mayor Will Haynie, Howard Chapman, Brenda Corley,
Carl Ritchie
Staff Present: Brad Morrison, Eric DeMoura, James Aton
Transportation Committee Presentation
1. Call to order
Mayor Haynie called the meeting to order at 9:30 am.
2. Approval of Minutes from the April 3, 2023 meeting
Mr. Chapman moved for approval of the minutes; motion seconded by
Ms. Corley. Motion carried unanimously.
3. Public Comments
Jody Peele, 506 Woodspring Road, expressed opposition to the
Micromobility Pilot Project on Deer Creek Road requesting the path be
removed and replaced with sidewalks.
Daniel Mullin, 577 Woodspring Road, expressed opposition to the
Micromobility Pilot Project on Deer Creek Road requesting the path be
removed and replaced with sidewalks.
Bill Harnish, Darrell Creek HOA, 3590 Deer Creek Road, expressed support
of the Micromobility Pilot Project and requested additional sidewalks.
4. Requests from Commonwealth subdivision HOA
a. Discussion of pedestrian path on Deer Creek Road

Mr. Aton provided an overview of the Micromobility Program
and history of the pedestrian path on Deer Creek Road explaining how
vehicles and pedestrians interact and the traffic calming effects that result.
Discussion between the Committee and staff.
b. Update on the resurfacing of Darrell Creek Trail
Mr. Aton reviewed how roadways are scored for prioritization for
resurfacing. He explained that Carolina Park is still under construction, and
it would be counterproductive to resurface the roadway until the last phase
of Carolina Park is complete. This is based on the fact heavy equipment and
construction material hauling would cause damage to the newly resurfaced
roadway.
Discussion between the Committee and staff.
c. Update on the replacement of street signs
Mr. Aton provide the Committee with an update on the replacement
of street signs in Commonwealth per the Street Sign Replacement Program
policy.
5. Update – ongoing projects
Mayor Haynie stated that the Isle of Palms has selected their
preferred alternative for the restriping of the Isle of Palms Connector and
that the Town would have an opportunity to express their preferred
alternative.
Mr. Aton provided the Committee with updates on the Bessemer Road
sidewalk, Patriots Point Gateway Intersection Improvement, Vaughn Ed
Kee Parkway, Billy Swails Boulevard and All American Boulevard projects.

6. Adjourn
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:56 am.
