MAIN STREET ALLIANCE Monday, June 21, 2021 – 5:15 PM 109 North Kaufman Street, Mount Vernon, Texas 75457 MINUTES Call to Order and announce a quorum is present Chair Gekiere opened the public meeting at 5:16 p.m. and announced a quorum of active members present. PRESENT: Chair Betsy Gekiere Board Member Gay Travis Board Member Jonathan Jones Board Member Bonnie McAllister ABSENT Board Member Crystal Copeland VISITORS Tina Rose, Brad Hyman, Jennifer Beene Consent Agenda Items on the Consent Agenda are approved by a single action of the Board, with such approval applicable to all items appearing on the Consent Agenda. A Board Member may request any item to be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as a separate item. 1. May 2021 financial report Minutes 5-17-21 with the amendment on number 5 to change wet to set Motion made by Board Member Jones, Seconded by Board Member Travis. Voting Yea: Chair Gekiere, Board Member Travis, Board Member Jones, Board Member McAllister Action Items 2. Consider and Act upon acceptance of resignations of Board Members. Motion made by Board Member McAllister, Seconded by Board Member Jones. Voting Yea: Chair Gekiere, Board Member Travis, Board Member Jones, Board Member McAllister 3. Consider and Act upon approval of new board member(s). Motion made by Board Member Jones to reinstate Jennifer Beene to the Board. Seconded by Board Member Travis. Voting Yea: Chair Gekiere, Board Member Travis, Board Member Jones, Board Member McAllister Motion made by Chair Gekiere to approve recommending Lindsay Bliss, Ketrell Taylor, and Erica  Clasby, to the City Council for board membership. Seconded by Jonathan Jones. Voting Yea: Chair Gekiere, Board Member Travis, Board Member Jones, Board Member McAllister, Board Member Beene. 4. Consider and Act upon approval of appointment of Jonathan Jones as Vice-Chair. Motion made by Chair Gekiere, Seconded by Board Member McAllister. Voting Yea: Chair Gekiere, Board Member Travis, Board Member McAllister, Board Member Beene Voting Abstaining: Board Member Jones Discussion Items (no action will be taken) --Smokey Row update will not be made tonight for a lack of information, this is a Friends of Main Street project. --Farmer's Market and Second Saturday, Vice-chair Jones reported the June 2nd Saturday was very active until the rain shower in the afternoon. There are open spaces for demonstrations in July, August and September. Board Member Beene suggested on September 11th, to have police, fire departments, EMS to come and be honored and Vice-chair Jones said he also was working on maybe a motorcycle club being there as well. Further reporting that entertainment was needed for the August 2nd Saturday, Mrs. Beene had given him a name of someone who may be able to fill that spot and he will be making contact with them. Mr. Jones further reported he was working on maybe a antique car show for the month of August, Mrs. Beene later stated that she would love to see the ice cream making contest come back, maybe that could be in July, also Mr. Jones asked for more volunteers to help with Farmer's Market and 2nd Saturday, Crystal Copeland will be there to help on June 26th and July 3rd. --MVF&WF Board Member McAllister and her committee will bring back dates to the July meeting for the Market on Main in the spring. Harvest on Main dinner has been set for 11/6/2021. --Committee Chair assignments will be discussed after new board members are seated. Committee Reports: Chair Gekiere explained what each of these committees are responsible for completing and who was on them. --Organization - Wendy Standridge was the chair of this board and now has resigned, this position will be filled upon seating the board members. --Economic Vitality - Bonnie McAllister reported not much was happening at this time. Vice-chair Jones is also on this committee. --Design - Betsy Gekiere reported that she, Bonnie, Jennifer and Gay were on this committee. --Promotions - Crystal Copeland was absent. This committee consists of Crystal, Jonathan and Jennifer. Manager Update Hiring new manager-Tina Rose Mayor Hyman spoke about what he wants to see happen with this position being combined with the EDC secretary position at this time.
