Public Safety Meeting January 3, 2018 Attendee: Richard Brocksmith, Iris Carias, Mary Hudson, Mark Hulst, Jill Bourdreau, Joe Lindquist, Gary Molenaar, Melissa Beaton Approval of Minutes: No motion made Chief Brice: Fire Operations Overview • Met with new Council Members at Fire Station 2 at 5:00 pm to provide overview of fire apparatus. Fire Statistics • 37 personnel. Through the 2018 budget process, lost a part time Office Assistant position and gained a Fire Inspector position which will be hired later this year. • Call volume has increased by approximately 500 calls in 2017. Most of the calls are medial in nature. Department Structure • Fire Chief and administrative staff, including the Fire Marshal all work a 40 hour work week. The Operations are handled by the Battalion Chiefs and work a 24 hour shift. • Operations personnel take on many of the Administrative assignments due to the limited administrative staff hours available. Grant Opportunity • Firehouse Subs has moved into Mount Vernon. The Fire Department is looking into a $25,000 grant which does not have a matching funds requirement. This grant would be applied towards the purchase of rescue tools.
