1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Solomon called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

3. MINUTES APPROVAL
3.1 Minutes approval for March 28, 2019
Motion - M/S - Ball/Batton - Minutes for the March 28, 2019, meeting were approved with
the following modification:
Item 7.1 - Commissioner Batton attended a talk at Kepler's Books by author Lauren
Markham.
Yes: 6- Commissioner Ball, Commissioner Batton, Commissioner Romero, Vice Chair
Sharma, Commissioner Sylvester and Chair Solomon
Absent: 1- Commissioner Stone
4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
None.
5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
5.1 Multicultural Festival Update
Vice Chair Sharma provided an oral report, debriefing the Commission on the
Multicultural Festival held on March 30, 2019. The Commission discussed prospective
dates for a 2021 event.
5.2 Civility Roundtable (CRT) Subcommittee Update
Commissioner Sylvester provided an oral update on the Civility Roundtable Civil
Discourse training held on April 6, 2019. The community participation and feedback on
the training was overwhelmingly positive.

5.3 Immigrant Resources Needs and Assets Assessment
Subcommittee Update
Chair Solomon and Commissioners Batton and Romero provided an oral update of the
Subcommittee's progress. The Subcommittee will be completing focus group interviews
and finalizing a community survey.
6. NEW BUSINESS
6.1 Development of the HRC Work Plan for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20
The Commission reviewed the work plan status for Fiscal Year 2018-19, and engaged in
a discussion with staff about potential new projects and tasks for the Fiscal Year
2019-20 work plan.
7. COMMISSION/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS, UPDATES, REQUESTS, AND COMMITTEE
REPORTS
Vice Chair Sharma announced that she will be absent from the September 5, October 3,
and November 7, 2019, HRC meetings while she is on maternity leave.
Commissioner Sylvester announced that Affordable Housing Week sponsored by
SV@Home is scheduled for May 3-17.
Chair Solomon and Commissioner Romero attended the Spanish Leadership Academy
Community Resource Fair on April 17.
Chair Solomon announced that she will be late to the June 6 HRC meeting.
8. ADJOURNMENT
At 8:25 pm., Chair Solomon adjourned the meeting to the regular meeting of the Human
Relations Commission to be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019, in the Plaza Conference
Room, located at City Hall, 500 Castro Street.

Recommendation: Minutes for the March 28, 2019, special meeting have been delivered
to Commissioners and a copy posted on the City Hal bulletin board. If
there are no corrections or additions, a motion is in order to approve
these minutes.

4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the Commission
on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes. State law
prohibits the Commission from acting on non-agenda items.

5.1 Multicultural Festival Update
Recommendation: The Subcommittee will present an oral update.

Recommendation: Staff will provide a work plan update for the Commission's discussion
and consideration of projects and tasks for the next fiscal year. The
HRC will discuss existing work plan items and additions for the next
fiscal year.

6, 2019, in City Hall, 500 Castro Street. Meeting date, time, and venue are subject to
change. Please check online at www.mountainview.gov as an agenda will be posted the
Friday prior to the HRC meeting.
