CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Hepfer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. 2. WELCOME Incoming Commissioner, Kevin Lee, briefly addressed the Commision. 3. ROLL CALL 4. MINUTES APPROVAL 4.1 Approval of Minutes M/S Devine/Conley - That Parks and Recreation Commission approve the December 13, 2017 minutes. Yes: 4- Commissioner Devine, Commissioner Hepfer, Commissioner Lee, and Vice Chair Conley Absent: 1- Chair Herbach 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 6.1 Pickleball Facility Update and Next Steps Recreation Manager Marchant and Recration Supervisor Chilkotowsky presented an oral report and answered the Commissioner's questions. Speaking from the floor expressing concerns and/or supporting: • Monica Williams • Charles Kaspar • Ross Dargahi • Terrie Rayl • Dan Clark M/S Conley/Devine - To approve staff reccommendation that staff monitor new pickleball court use for a period of one year after completion to determine future community needs and report findings back to the Tennis Advisory Board and Parks and Recreation Commission. NEW BUSINESS 7.1 Heritage Tree Appeal - 2447 Thaddeus Drive Parks Section Manager Trconic presented the heritage tree appeal on 2447 Thaddeus and requested the Commission deny the appeal and allow the Mexican fan palm to remain. Speaking from the floor expressing concerns: • Jessica Dang M/S Conley/Devine - To direct the homeowner to work with staff and come back with a plan of type/location/size of replacement tree, if removal were approved, that takes into consideration underlying infrastructure in the yard. 7.2 Election of Officers M/S Hepfer/Devine - To nominate Commissioner Herbach as the Chairperson. Yes: 3- Commissioner Devine, Commissioner Hepfer, and Vice Chair Conley Absent: 1- Chair Herbach Abstain: 1- Commissioner Lee M/S Lee/Hepfer - To nominate Commissioner Conley as the Vice Chair. Yes: 4- Commissioner Devine, Commissioner Hepfer, Commissioner Lee, and Vice Chair Conley Absent: 1- Chair Herbach 8. ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Hepfer adjourned the meeting at 8:45 p.m. to the next Regular Meeting of February 14, 2018 at the Senior Center, 266 Escuela Avenue.
