ADJOURNMENT  Public Works Committee Meeting Minutes 6:00 PM - Wednesday, September 6, 2023 Council Chambers The Public Works Committee of the City of New Richmond was called to order on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 6:00 PM, in the Council Chambers, with the following members present: PRESENT: Craig Kittel, Kari Kraft, Pete Vrieze, Scott Grady ABSENT: Tim Gjovik OTHERS Erik Evenson, Rob Weldon, Jamie Larson PRESENT: CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL ADOPTION OF AGENDA Pete Vrieze made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Scott Grady seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Pete Vrieze made a motion to approve the minutes from the July 12, 2023. Scott Grady seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS DOWNTOWN AMENITIES Erik Evenson gave an overview on the condition of the downtown benches, planters and trash cans. City Staff shared ideas regarding funding of replacements, the Committee would like to see it worked into the budget. No action was taken at this time. MINNESOTA AVENUE LAYOUT Erik Evenson shared options for the reconstruction of Minnesota Avenue 2024. Inclusion of a Trail, impact on the number of parking spaces, possible extension of the park, and additional green space were all discussed. Public Works Committee Meeting September 6, 2023 Pete Vrieze made a motion to reconstruct Minnesota Ave from 1st- 4th including a trail and changing parking on the West side from angle to parallel. Scott Grady seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT Erik Evenson presented the opportunity offer a one-day recycling event for residential electronic. Acceptable items would include Desktop computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, printers, DVD players, radios, keyboards, docking stations, LCD TVs, CRT monitors, and monitors at no charge. Citizens would need to show their New Richmond Utilities bill and photo ID in order to participate. Pete Vrieze made a motion to proceed with planning a one-day event this fall in partnership with First Choice Computer Recycling and MRM E-Cycling Management as discussed. Kari Kraft seconded the motion. Carried unanimously. COUNTY HIGHWAY K TRAIL ADVISORY COMMITTEE Erik Evenson explained that as part of the DOT grant guidelines for the County Highway K Trail construction, an advisory committee must be established. The Advisory Committee's responsibility would be to review the firms who show an interest in the project. The Public Works committee nominated Scott Grady, Craig Kittel, Tim Gjovic to represent the City. This trailer would be used extensively to aid with fall leaf pickup, Christmas tree pickup, spring yard cleanup and general brush/tree cutting done by the department throughout the year. After looking at several different trailers, Pubic Works staff feels that a Road Warrior Dump Trailer purchased through Johnson Trailer Co. in Colfax, WI best suits the department’s needs. This trailer offers a heavier gauge floor than other models that will withstand use better than other lower cost trailers. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the purchase of a 7 ton, 16’ Dump Trailer through Johnson Trailer Co. in the amount of $13, 180.00.
