Outbound Hans Joohs Intern - Martha Balge  Intern dates May 26 through August 15  Martha will work at the Danube Office helping organize a big event in July called "U(l)mweltwoche" (concerning environmental issues).  Martha's second intern location will be with the City of Ulm to support school childcare and vacation program for kids which begins mid-July. 5.2. Inbound Hans Joohs Intern - Samuel Knoops  Intern dates September 2 through November 24  Schell's Brewery will host Samuel for his internship 5.3. Appoint commissioner to pick up Samuel from MSP airport on September 2nd (flight number Lufthansa LH 4568 arriving at 2:05 p.m.) 5.4. Update relating to Jensen Motors or Chuck Spaeth Ford offering a rental car for Samuel 5.5. Host Families September 2 - October 13 - Sharon & Dick Seeboth October 14 - November 24 - Jim & Konnie Bartels 6. Page 2 of 7 Minutes of the Sister Cities Commission Monday, May 5, 2025 5:15 pm Roll call Members present: Carolyn Marti-Smith, John Vorwerk, Ellie Sveine, Larry Mack, Dick Seeboth, and Kathleen Backer. Absent: Tony Beranek, Ron Wendinger, Brian Filzen, Jayne Maday-Hulke Meeting Called to Order Dick Seeboth, acting vice chair called meeting to order at 5:15. Election of officers Carolyn Marti-Smith made a motion to nominate Jayne Maday- Hulke for the open position of chair of this committee. Carolyn stated she had talked with Jayne prior to our meeting and that she was accepting of the nomination. Second was made by Larry Mack. Motion carried. Approval of Minutes from April 7th, 2025 Carolyn Marti-Smith made a motion to accept the minutes, second by John Vorwerk. Motion carried. Financial Report ending April 30, 2025 Larry Mack made a motion to accept the financial report, second by Carolyn Marti-Smith. Motion carried. Hans Joohs Cultural Exchange Program Our outgoing exchange intern, Martha Balge, will be in Germany May 25 – August 15. She will be working at the Danube Office on an event in July called U(i)mweltwoche and with the City of Ulm to support school childcare and vacation program for kids which begins mid-July. The incoming exchange intern, Samuel Knoops, will be in New Ulm, MN September 2 – November 24, working at Schell’s Brewery. Dick and Sharon Seeboth will host Samuel the first 6 weeks; we are still in need of host family for the second 6 weeks. Please let us know of anyone who may be interested in hosting. Page 3 of 7 Old Business German Language Day Camp for 2025. Carolyn stated the instructor is now unable to do the language camp, so there will be no camp this year. We will continue to work on finding a committed educator for the program in the future. Brat Stand at Cash Wise Foods. The dates will be Sunday June 22, 2025 and Monday August 25, 2025. Sign-up sheets have been sent out by Lisa P. for members to sign up. We still need more volunteers. New Business Larry Mack made a motion to have Lisa P. send the city a budget request application as we have in the past as stated on the agenda, second made by Carolyn Marti-Smith. Motion passed.
