City of Norman Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes for May 13, 2019 Meeting, 6:15 PM City of Norman Municipal Complex 201 West Gray, Multi-purpose Conference Room (1) Roll Call and Introduction of Visitors: a. Members present: Carr, Krumholz, Cantwell, Carrie, Southern, Bailey, b. Visitors: Laura Matlock, Ok Dept of Health/Norman Open Streets Taylor Johnson, ACOG (2) Approval of April Meeting Minutes & New Business for May 2019 agenda a. Minutes approved with corrections (3) Agenda Minutes • Election of Officers. Nominations of new officers. Hal Cantwell was nominated as chair, Sunni Bailey was nominated as vice-chair, Lee Krumholz was nominated as secretary. The slate of officers was voted on and all were approved. • Norman Bike Skills Park update (Briggs) Design/building contractor PBR Scheduled construction start date is June 17-24, 2019. Possible to have opening by mid-July, 2019?City of Norman Parks Board has designated the skills park will be named the Creekside Bike Park. BAC will explore who might "adopt" the park. The Bicycle League of Norman will be approached to determine if they may be interested. A small parking lot will be paved next to the park and future consideration of parking off of 24th St. • Legacy Trail Eco-counter disposition: no movement detected • Open Streets Norman 2019 (Matlock) Laura Matlock reported about 1500 people attended A survey was taken with 36 respondents. The results suggested that the Open Streets event got people to do something that was active. Results also suggested that the event got people out of their cars. In the future, Open Streets might be paired with another Norman event. Suggestions were made regarding having the event on Campus corner or Flood Street between Main and Boyd Street. During the event the BAC table next to Bicycle League of Norman table promoting Norman Conquest bike ride. Carr to set up bicycle skills course for kids. ACOG (Taylor Johnson) to set up demonstration bike lane next to BAC table. • Earth Day Norman 2019. BAC participated. Will discuss at future meetings how to improve BAC presence at events like Earth Day. • DRAFT BAC Activities Summary to Community Planning and Transportation Committee was presented by Lombardo. Final BAC Activities Summary will be presented May 23, 2019 to Council Subcommittee by Cantwell, Lombardo and Briggs. • City of Norman Updates: • Angelo Lombardo Norman Transportation initiatives: Transportation Bond passed on April 2, 2019. ODOT that will be bidding the 24th Ave. project in June. The 36th Ave. project is delayed for at least a year. Order of implementation of planned projects will depend upon partnership funding cycles. • Teddy Wilson Norman PD: no report • CART Bikes on buses for April: 624 (report from Sandy Shapiro, CART sshapiro@ou.edu ) • Crimson Cruiser statistics: Kris Glenn krisglenn@ou.edu • General discussion on plans and projects for BAC focus over then next few years.
