Norman Board of Parks Commissioners June 6, 2019 The Norman Board of Parks Commissioners of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of Oklahoma, met in Council Chambers on the 6th day of June, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. and notice and agenda of the meeting were posted at 201 West Gray Street, 24 hours prior to the beginning of the meeting. ITEM 1, being: ROLL CALL Present: Chair Wright and Commissioners Dolan, Favors, Isacksen, Moxley, Sallee, Salmond, and Starke Absent: None Tardy: Commissioner Cooper City Officials Present: Jud Foster, Director of Parks and Recreation Jason Olsen, Recreation Superintendent Karla Sitton, Administrative Technician IV ITEM 2, being: APPROVAL OF THE MAY 2, 2019 MINUTES Commissioner Isacksen made the motion and Commissioner Moxley seconded to approve the minutes. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chair Wright and Commissioners Dolan, Favors, Isacksen, Moxley, Sallee, Salmond, and Starke NAY: None ITEM 3, being: APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Moxley made the motion and Commissioner Sallee seconded to approve the agenda. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chair Wright and Commissioners Dolan, Favors, Isacksen, Moxley, Sallee, Salmond, and Starke NAY: None _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Commissioner Cooper arrived at the meeting at 5:34 p.m. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ITEM 4, being MISCELLANEOUS The Park Board discussed whether or not to have a July meeting since the first Thursday of the month is the July 4th holiday and the Planning Commission is already scheduled for July 11th , the Park Board Regular Meeting Page 2 of 2 June 6, 2019 second Thursday of the month. The Board determined there would not be a July meeting unless Staff let everyone know if any pressing business came up that needed to be attended to. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 1, 2019. Commissioner Dolan said he had a colleague contact him about the homeless people in June Benson Park; specifically, a man stays in the gazebo during the day. He asked if was there was a rule that did not allow loitering in the park. Mr. Jud Foster said June Benson Park is a public park and open to everyone from dawn to dusk. He said homelessness is a hard subject and no one is supposed to be in any of the parks at night. Mr. Foster said he could speak to the City Attorney’s office, but was not sure anything could be done if the man was not causing a disturbance; however, if he is causing a disturbance the police department would need to handle the situation. Commissioner Sallee said there is a homeless camp at Sutton Wilderness and Mr. Foster said it has been an ongoing issue at Sutton Wilderness. He said City Staff as well as the Police Department and Michelle Evans, Homeless Program Coordinator, try to assist and help the homeless as much as possible. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ ITEM 5, being AJOURNMENT Commissioner Moxley made the motion and Commissioner Salmond seconded to adjourn.
