MINUTES
January 15, 2018
The Mayor and the Norman Human Rights Commission hosted the Interfaith Breakfast on January 15,
2018, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The Interfaith Breakfast was held at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church located at 419 S. University Blvd. Notice of the Interfaith Breakfast was timely posted at City
Hall, and the event was open to the public. Although the Interfaith Breakfast was not a regularly
scheduled meeting of the Human Rights Commission, a quorum of the Commission was present;
therefore, a summary of the Interfaith Breakfast is recorded as required by the Open Meeting Act.
PRESENT: Commissioners Kay Ham, Mary Lou Drywater,
Marjaneh Seraifi-Pour, Daniel Dukes, Jackie
Farley, and Sage Mauldin
ABSENT: Commissioners Mary Womack, Kirsten Edwards,
and Chris Nanny
Jabar Shumate, Vice President for the University Community at the University of Oklahoma, presented a
keynote address entitled, “Moving toward the More Beloved Community.” Inspirational commentary
and prayers were shared by leaders representing a number of diverse faiths.
