CITY OF NORMAN, OK JOINT MEETING WITH THE STRONG TOWNS AD HOC COMMITTEE, PLANNING COMMISSION & CITY COUNCIL Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 201 West Gray, Norman, OK 73069 Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM MINUTES It is the policy of the City of Norman that no person or groups of persons shall on the grounds of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, age, place of birth, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, familial status, marital status, including marriage to a person of the same sex, disability, relation, or genetic information, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise subjected to discrimination in employment activities or in all programs, services, or activities administered by the City, its recipients, sub-recipients, and contractors. Discussion on this progress: ~Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) ~Pattern Zoning ~Minimum Lot Sizes ~Codes and Process Review ~Barriers to Medium Density Housing ~Review Resources in the Community Action Lab Event #3 in Norman ~Engagement at Event 3 (Scheduled for November 7th and 8th) ~Stakeholder Meetings on November 8th at - City Council Chambers ~9 - 10:30 AM: City Council Members & Planning Commission ~10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Chamber Representatives & Social Service Providers Meeting Schedule and Events ~This is our last scheduled virtual briefing. ~Event #3 is scheduled for November 7-8, 2023 at - City Council Chambers ~November 7th events ~3:30 - 5:00 PM: Leadership Team Briefing and Listening Session ~6:30-8:00 PM: Building a Stronger Norman for the Next Generation - Public Presentation & Q&A Since February, the Local Action Team and other community members in Norman have been working diligently to develop solutions that address the needs of the community. In addition to the topics shared through the Norman Community Action Lab, the Strong Towns team will discuss transportation focused issues such as the design process used for transportation planning, how engineers and citizens differ when prioritizing various transportation values, and bottom-up techniques for spending less while getting higher returns in transportation investments. JOINT MEETING WITH THE STRONG TOWNS AD HOC COMMITTEE, PLANNING COMMISSION & CITY COUNCIL - Monday, October 23, 2023 Page |2 This event is an opportunity to discuss issues that are important to the Norman Community with neighbors. ~November 8th events ~9 - 10:30 AM: City Council & Planning Commission Meeting ~10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Chamber Representatives & Social Service Providers Meeting ~12:00 - 1:30 PM: Action Team Debrief  Edward Eufart discussed how sales tax distorts how we see development patterns.  Edward Eufart also discussed that ADUs are the next smallest step for Norman because they don’t always have to change the house size and can be attached or un- attached. This meeting was adjourned at 10:40am. Norman City Council and the Planning Commission will be invited to attend the meetings. These are not regular meetings of the City Council or Planning Commission; however, this notice is being posted in compliance with the Oklahoma Open Meetings Act in the event a quorum of Council is present.
