SOCIAL AND VOLUNTARY SERVICES COMMISSION Minutes of June 22, 2022 The Social and Voluntary Services Commission of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of Oklahoma, met for the Regular Meeting on this date at 5:30 p.m. Notice and Agenda of the meeting were posted at 201 W Gray Building A, the Norman Municipal Building, and at www.Normanok.gov twenty-four hours prior to the beginning of the meeting. Heidi Smith called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. ITEM NO. 1 BEING: Roll Call MEMBERS PRESENT: Victoria Harrison Angela Steinle Heidi Smith Kurt Lee Ann Way Scott Meier Kevin Woodfork MEMBERS ABSENT: Loida Salmond Joshua Hinkle STAFF PRESENT: Lisa Krieg, CDBG/Grants Manager Tara Reynolds, Admin Tech ITEM NO. 2, BEING: Approval of the minutes from the June 28, 2022 meeting. Motion by Ann Way to approve the minutes as submitted; Second by Kurt Lee. All approve. ITEM NO. 3, BEING: Discussion regarding carry over funding. Agencies with remaining balances were given the option of a 3 month extension to expend their funds. 3 agencies requested the extension – Variety Care, St. Francis, and Aging Services. The Commission agreed to their extension requests. ITEM NO. 4, BEING: Discussion regarding Applications for Funding received and any additional information requested from applicants. • Able: No questions. • Aging Services: Please describe your policy and procedures for distributing gas cards? • Among Friends: Currently rebuilding their program. No questions. • Assistance League: Do they receive United Way funding? SVSC June 22, 2022 • Bethesda: Has a new director. no questions • BBBS: no questions • CASA: Lot of director turnover. What was the 49% other in the budget? Please provide the policy and procedures for the distribution of gas cards. What was the volunteer response from giving out gas cards in the past? The application for next year will have a comment box for the “Other” category in the budget. • CASP: What is your funding/business model for the future? What is the 40% other in your budget? • Catholic Charities: No questions. • CCFI: Please separate the financials and people served from Boys & girls club. • CSBI: Have you ever sought funding from the county? • Envision: Have you discussed your latest grant acceptance with a tax accountant? What is the daily average of people served? • Food & Shelter: Have you sought any corporate funding? • Full Circle: What is the 26% other in your budget? • Gratefulness Foundation: How do you reconcile this request with the 7th tradition of AA? How many locations are used? How much is the rent? Is there a need for this in the community when free meeting spaces are available? • Habitat for Humanity: Can you expand on your community care and what it means? Can you explain your answer on how volunteers are utilized? • Infant Crises: Do you receive any funding from United Way? Is this an option you would consider for the future? • Legal Aid: no questions • Little Read Wagon: Do you get books in any language besides English? Does the Imagination library affect your work? • Mary Abbot House: Any collaboration with Bethesda? Do you have permission from NPS? Did Mary Abbott House create this curriculum? How many forensic interviews occurred in 2021? • Meals on Wheels: No questions. • Project Outreach: No questions • Salvation Army: No questions. • Share & Grow: No questions. • SEED Corp: Where do you collect the 65% fees in your budget? Who are you collaborating with in Norman? How do you find people to assist in Norman? • Thunderbird: no questions • Transition House: What is a hybrid housing first recovery model? How many people are served on a daily basis in the drop in center? How many are not residential clients? Have the musical instruments been priced? Are the tubs used on site?
