Tree Board Meeting

TREE BOARD April 3, 2017 The Tree Board of the City of Norman, Cleveland County, State of Oklahoma, met in the Study Session Room on the 3rd day of April 2017 at 4:00 P.M. ITEM 1, being: ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Menzie and members Fagin, Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Spain and Winegardner (two positions vacant) Absent: None City Officials Present: Karla Chapman, Admin Technician IV Lisa Griggs, Senior Program Coordinator ITEM 2, being: APPROVAL OF THE MARCH 6, 2017 MEETING MINUTES Member Winegardner made the motion and Member Fagin seconded to approve the minutes. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chairman Menzie and members Fagin, Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Spain and Winegardner NAY: None ITEM 3, being: APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Member Winegardner made the motion and Member Fagin seconded to approve the agenda. The vote was taken with the following results: YEAH: Chairman Menzie and members Fagin, Grisso, Huffman, Janaway, Spain and Winegardner NAY: None ITEM 4, being: SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS Member Fagin reported The 2nd Friday Art Walk – will continue participation in May –and need to locate a place to distribute literature from. Chairman Menzie will bring Banner and agreed to help. Member Janaway said there have been and will be code compliant issues in Tree Board Page 2 of 2 April 3, 2017 neighborhoods regarding trees and/or tree trimming. He felt this was another reason the City should hire an arborist. No Tree Tip for April. ITEM 5, being: EARTH DAY Earth Day will be held on April 23rd at Reaves Park. The Tree Board will have a booth. Chairman Menzie stated the Tree Wizard will have their own booth again this year and will bring t-posts to hang the Tree Board Banner. Member Winegardner said the Park Foundation typically gives the Tree Board supplies so children attending Earth Day can make necklaces. He requested Lisa Griggs to get with the Park Foundation to see if they plan to do it again this year. Lisa Griggs will be picking up seedlings from the Forestry Division to hand out on Earth Day. Member Winegardner asked if there was going to be a drawing for a larger tree at Earth Day. Sherrel Sheriff said the board may want to determine whether or not a tree should be planted this year due to future construction in Reaves Park. ITEM 6, being: MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTS Chairman Menzie said he would accept the Arbor Day Proclamation on behalf of the Tree Board at the April 11th City Council meeting. Member Janaway asked whether there was a tree inventory for City parks and Chairman Menzie said such inventories are very expensive. Member Fagin said University of Oklahoma students may want to assist with a tree inventory. ITEM 7, being: ADJOURNMENT Member Huffman made the motion and Member Grisso seconded to adjourn.
