Citizen Comments: None Communications: None Old Business: Charging Stations Sub-Committee – Report: Julie has kept in contact with Chris Riley from NPU. Julie reported that he can speak with us more after the Commission begins meeting regularly again. He is open to starting the process of getting a charging station again, if we’re interested.Commission members discussed where it would be located if we were able to get one installed. Julie said originally they planned on having it in front of Stop & Shop, across the street from UCFS. Mark suggested ShopRite. Recruiting New Members: This is Wendy’s first official Commission for Persons with Disabilities meeting. New member Joanne was not in attendance. They also spoke about how the quorum for the commission has decreased to 3 members of the commission, as approved by the city council. New Business: Disability Awareness Week 2022: Commission members discussed whether they will attempt to make programs for Disability Awareness week in October and what was/was not successful at past DAW events. It was agreed by the majority of members that they should focus on 1-2 events during that week instead of 1-2 events everyday of the week. Mark volunteered to reach out and follow up with legislators so we can have a program with legislators again. Julie had a few ideas including hosting a book club at the Otis Library. “Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist” has been chosen as this year’s One Book One Region, a collaboration between the librarians of Eastern CT. They are also considering reaching out to Elanah Sherman, a past president of the commission, to do a presentation on Title I, II, or III of the ADA.
