Health Equity Committee Special Meeting December 5, 2022 2:30 pm Room 217- City Manager’s Office Present: John Salomone-City Manager, Brigid Marks – Human Resources Director, Patrick Daley-Police Chief, Kate Milde-Director of Human Services, Patrick McCormack-Uncas Health Jennifer Granger-United Community Services, Robert Farwell-Otis Library, Dr. Mohammed Qureshi-Hartford Healthcare, Joseph Zuzel-Director of Community Health for Hartford Healthcare, and Sheila Hayes – Norwich NAACP. A quorum was determined. Others in attendance–Jacquie Barbarossa-Executive Assistant to the City Manager John Salomone welcomed the group and introductions were made and asked for a volunteer for a chair. Since there was no volunteer for a chair, Joe Zuzel made a motion for City Manager John Salomone to be interim chair for this meeting and for the January meeting until a chair can be appointed. Jennifer Granger seconded, unanimous. It was determined that the committee will meet as needed until the Chair can schedule dates of meetings going forward. Kate Milde suggested a presentation by United Way at the next meeting to share data that she thought would be helpful to the group since they may have some information or statistics on the 13 points in the original resolution to form the committee. There was discussion regarding inviting United Way and Demographic Perspectives the consultant that was hired to assess and strategize for the group. Discussion continued and Joe Zuzel stated it would make more sense to have Demographic Perspective present to the committee before United Way to focus on the areas of deficiencies. Motion by Joseph Zuzel for Demographic Perspectives to make a presentation at next meeting to advise the group of next step. Second by Sheila Hayes – all in favor.
