NORWICH ICE RINK AUTHORITY
MINUTES FROM MEETING HELD JULY 16, 2009
Authority Attendance: Mike Goldblatt, Mike Schermerhorn, Cheryl Ritacco, and
Rich Wolak
Absent: Judy Deglin, Dean Pfeifer and Doug Barlow
Guest: Jim Sanca, Mia Sanca and Mike Arnone
Meeting was called to order by Mike Goldblatt at 6:12. A quorum was present.

Reports
Manager Jim Sanca reported on the following:
Learn to Skate has 90 participants, approximately the same number as
this time last year
Norwich Skating School finished first in New England District 1
Championships. First time in Connecticut. 18 teams were in attendance
with 51 Norwich Skating School members participating. Yulia Borissova
also won Skating Director of Year.
Norwich Skating School placed 10th out of 44 teams at the 50th ISI
Anniversary Florida Competition in May
Hockey clinics continue during the summer.
NFA will resume their hockey season in 09-10. Their fees will be $190 per
hour for practice and game ice. The Rink will collect the gate during NFA
home games. The team rented ice for skill development on Sunday
mornings in July and August
The Rink participated in Subfest. They rented a table space to promote
Rink programs and public skate
The Rink has partnered with TVCCA Youth Services to train fourteen 20
year olds for future work force. They have been working on the
landscaping around the Rink
City Manager, Alan Bergren came to Rink during a Tuesday Learn to
Skate. He had the session professionally videotaped for use on Norwich
web site.
Jim presented the budget for the fiscal year 2009-2010. The Rink
Authority reviewed, discussion took place, Authority voted and it was
unanimously accepted. Rich Wolak made motion to accept budget,
seconded by Cheryl Ritacco.
A response to the Rink’s RFP for concession management was presented.
Submission from Richard Bazinet was reviewed. Rink will receive lease
payment of five percent a month on the gross monthly receipts for the first
year and then six percent thereafter. Gross monthly receipts include
concession, vending machines, food purchased for birthday party packages
and outside catering events. In addition, a payment of $200 per month
for utilities, for the first six months, and $250 per month for the period
thereafter. Lesser will be provided with monthly statements for the above
information. Proposal shall commence on August 1, 2009 and shall carry
for a period of three years. Discussion took place, Authority voted and it
was unanimously accepted. Motion to accept was made by Rick Wolak,
seconded by Mike Schermerhorn.
