MOHEGAN PARK IMPROVEMENT & DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE Thursday, May 11, 2017 – 6:30 P.M. Norwich Public Works Conference Room 50 Clinton Avenue, Norwich, CT Regular Meeting MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Beryl Fishbone at 6:28 P.M. Committee members present: Beryl Fishbone, Judy Magnano, Rebecca Melucci, Samantha Venturo, Alderwoman Joanne Philbrick, Patrick McLaughlin (filling in for Ryan Thompson (Ex-Officio)). 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon a motion by Joanne Philbrick, seconded by Rebecca Melucci, the committee unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held on March 9, 2017. 3. FINANCIAL REPORT Upon a motion by Rebecca Melucci, seconded by Samantha Venturo, the committee unanimously approved the financial report. 4. OLD BUSINESS a. Chelsea Gardens: Joanne Philbrick, Beryl Fishbone and Bill Barbuto attended the Chelsea Gardens Meet and Greet event on March 30th. Little information was provided by CBG on the progress of their project. Judy Magnano did not send a letter to Attorney Michael Driscoll to follow up on the September 30th letter b. Concession Stand: Patrick McLaughlin reported the replacement of the roof should be completed by the end of the month. c. Park Signage: Bill Barbuto was not available to discuss the progress of park signage. d. Trail Activity/National Trails Day: Beryl Fishbone has concerns that the trails haven’t been marked for National Trails Day on June 3rd. e. Educational Programs: Beryl Fishbone continues her effort to bring educational awareness to the park. f. New Playground: Old playground equipment is being removed and new equipment will be installed. There was discussion pertaining to the placement of the old equipment. It was suggested that it be reinstalled and remain in Mohegan Park and not in another part of the city.  g. New Bathrooms: Patrick McLaughlin suggested new plans to install bathrooms in the Monkey House. Previous plans called for the demolition of the Monkey House. h. Recognition of gentleman that picks up trash in the park: Samantha Venturo will try to get his name 5. CITIZEN COMMENT 6. OTHER BUSINESS a. Water Tank: Chris LaRose and Mark Decker attended the meeting to announce that DPU is set to begin work on the water tank replacement. A few trees surrounding the old tank will be removed beginning May 22nd and demolition of the old tank will begin the middle of June before construction of the new tank begins. The end date is spring 2018. b. Replacement of Vandlized Sign: Patrick McLaughlin found that it will cost $220 to replace a vandalized kiosk map. Joann Philbrick made a motion to replace the sign seconded by Rebecca Melucci. 7. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made to adjourn by Rebecca Melucci, seconded by Joann Philbrick and voted unanimously by the committee. The meeting adjourned at 7:23 P.M. 8.
