MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Beryl Fishbone at 6:32 P.M.
Committee members present: Beryl Fishbone, Bill Barbuto, Judy Magnano,
Samantha Venturo, Alderman Sam Browning, Patrick McLaughlin filling in for
Ryan Thompson. Absent: Rebecca Melucci, Ryan Thompson (Ex-Officio)
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Upon a motion by Samantha Venturo, seconded by Sam Browning, the
committee unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held on
November 9, 2017.
3. FINANCIAL REPORT
Upon a motion by Samantha Venturo, seconded by Sam Browning, the
committee unanimously approved the financial report.
4. OLD BUSINESS
a. Water tank update: NPU representative, Mary Lou Rychling updated the
committee regarding the progress of the water tank. Due to cold weather,
there was a delay in filling the tank. It should be on-line by March 1st.
Fencing and painting scheduled for the beginning of May.
b. Gate opening between park center and animal shelter and handicap
parking spaces closer to park center: Patrick McLaughlin provided a map
showing a proposed 4 ft. opening in fence for greater handicapped access
to park center. DPW is requesting committee help to finance these park
improvements. The committee has asked DPW to provide a written
proposal/cost estimate.
c. Brochure containers on kiosks: Judy Magnano will send container photos
for review by Ryan Thompson.
d. Promotion of the park:
i. Great Backyard Bird Count (16-19 February 2018)
ii. Earth Day (22 April 2018)
iii. Arbor Day (27 April 2018): Beryl Fishbone suggested one of
Norwich’s two Tree Wardens visit schools and perhaps plant a tree.
iv. CT Public Gardens Day (11 May 2018)
v. National Trails Week (2-10 June 2018): Invite people to hike trails.
vi. National Gardening Exercise Day (6 June 2018): Samantha Venturo
suggested yoga in the rose garden.
vii. CT Historic Gardens Day (24 Jun 2018): Beryl Fishbone suggested
a concert in the rose garden. Bill Barbuto said parking might be an
issue and Judy Magnano was concerned with harm to roses. A
suggestion was made that a concert be held in the park center. Kyle
Seitz suggested including food trucks. Sam Browning and Kyle Seitz
will look into city rules for events and security costs.
viii. Inclusion of Chelsea Gardens Foundation in park promotion: A
motion was brought forth by Samantha Venturo and seconded by
Bill Barbuto, not to include Chelsea Gardens in park promotion,
park events and future park plans. Samantha Venturo, Bill Barbuto,
Judy Magnano voted in favor of the motion, Beryl Fishbone voted
against and Kyle Sietz and Sam Browning abstained.

Kyle Seitz suggested disc golf in the park.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made to adjourn by Kyle Seitz, seconded by Sam Browning and voted
unanimously by the committee. The meeting adjourned at 7:36 P.M.
