I. Roll Call
Meeting called to order by Paul Schroder at 6:00 pm.

II. Minutes
A. Minutes of the April 17,2018 Personnel & Pension Board Meeting.
Motion to approve the April 17, 2018 meeting minutes made by Shiela Hayes,
seconded by Chris Colas, all in favor.
III. Old Business
A. Request for prior service buyback from Bonnie Cuprak. A legal opinion was requested
from Corporation Counsel. Brigid Marks provided a summary on the types of prior
service buybacks available. Mike Driscoll reviewed and requested further discussion
with the board and Brigid Marks at the May meeting. Tabled to the May 2018 meeting.
Mike Driscoll was not in attendance, however the board discussed the pension
participation options for appointed and elected officials and Bonnie Cuprak's verbal
request in 2009 not to participate in the fund.
Motion to allow Bonnie Cuprak to buyback four years of prior service, beginning in
December 2009,over a one year period made by John John,seconded by Paul Schroder.
Paul Schroder and John John voted in favor,Scott Suplita and Chris Colas voted against
and Shiela Hayes abstained. Motion did not pass.
The Board discussed the Charter language that requires eligible appointed/elected
officials to notify the Board in writing within 90 days of their appointment or election
to become a participating member of the retirementfund.The Board suggested instead,
going forward. Human Resources initiate the contact with the newly appointed or
elected eligible officials in writing.

III. Old Business

B. Request from Andrew Thomasson to consider allowing Veterans Preference points be
added to promotional exams if they were not used previously to gain permanent
employment at entry level. Board reviewed at the April meeting. Tabled to the May
meeting for review with Brigid Marks.
IV. New Business
A. Notification of the appointment of Robert Dempsky as an alternate member of the
board. His term expires March 1, 2021.
B. Applications for retirement:
1. Linda Hanson, School Nurse Supervisor-BOE, for a deferred retirement effective
February 27, 2018 and payable February 15, 2029.
2. Phyllis Boyes, Paraeducator-BOE, for a normal retirement effective June 20, 2018.
3. Andre Gagnon, Light Equipment Operator, for a normal retirement effective July
31, 2018.
C. Pension Calculations:
1. Linda Hanson, retired February 27, 2018. Her deferred pension is calculated for
$21,619.50 annually. Her application for retirement is on this agenda for approval at
this meeting.
2. Arthur Dean, retired April 21, 2018. His pension is calculated for $53,815.77 annually
and was approved at the February 2018 meeting.
D. Application for refund/rollover of pension contributions:
1. Sarah Seifert, Paraeducator-BOE, who withdrew from the plan on April 11, 2018.
Refund of $1,596.95 with interest (thru 04/30/2018).
E. Notification of death:
1. Wanda Cornell, DOD May 7, 2018, who retired from the City on Aug 26, 1986. No
further benefit due.
