CITY OF NORWICH DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS January 24, 2020 TO: City Clerk FROM: Director of Public Works FILE #: PWD 013-20 SUBJECT: MINUTES OF PUBLIC WORKS & CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE A meeting of the Public Works and Capital Improvements Committee was held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in the conference room at the Public Works Headquarters, 50 Clinton Avenue. Attendance was as follows: Committee Members Administration Alderwoman Stacy Gould Patrick McLaughlin, Director Alderman Derell Wilson Nicole Doyle, Recording Secretary Alderman Joseph DeLucia Brian Long, City Engineer 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting minutes of the December 16, 2019 meeting were amended per Gould’s suggestion to amend the property disposition comment regarding 702 New London Tpke; to read “could be a historic property.” The minutes were unanimously approved, as amended. (Motion: Gould, Second: DeLucia) 3. CITIZEN COMMENT None 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Public Works Projects Updates  Sherman Street Bridge – continuing monthly meetings.  Sunnyside Bridge – bid awarded to Mattern Construction.  Annual Paving – exercised option to renew bid with existing contractor Charles Pasteryak Jr Inc.  Dunham Street – reviewing design and expected to send out to bid by March.  Franklin Square Roundabout – waiting for contract to be signed. McLaughlin updated the Parking Commission.  Capital Sidewalk Project – on hold until Spring.  Mohegan Park Bathrooms – architect reviewed site and expecting renovations to begin soon. B. Property Disposition  36 Huntington Ave and 21 Fairmount Street – Gould motioned to bring these properties to the Dangerous Buildings Board of Review to form a committee of sale for an RFP; Wilson seconded and all in favor. 5. NEW BUSINESS A. Road Closure Coordination  DeLucia recommended to have the Police Department announce any road closures at the Public Safety meetings going forward. Public Works department has a system in place to make people aware of any road construction through email and positing on the City of Norwich website.
