CITY OF NORWICH DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS November 18, 2020 TO: City Clerk FROM: Director of Public Works FILE #: PWD 152-20 SUBJECT: PUBLIC WORKS & CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE The regular meeting of the Public Works and Capital Improvements Committee was held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. via Zoom virtual meeting. Attendance was as follows: Committee Members Administration Alderwoman Stacy Gould Patrick McLaughlin, Director Alderman Joseph DeLucia Brian Long, City Engineer Alderman Derrell Wilson 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the October 19, 2020 meeting were unanimously approved. (Motion: Wilson, Second: Gould) 3. CITIZEN COMMENT – None 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Public Works Projects Updates  Sherman Street Bridge –Wetland application filed and accepted on Nov 5th. Meeting with the DOT for the 60% review design went well last week, and moving forward to final design.  Sunnyside Bridge –Project complete.  Annual Paving – Completed for the season.  Franklin Square Roundabout –DOT has approved project, but want to include the project sign. Expected out to bid and construction to start in the Spring.  46 Sunnyside Ave– Demolition awarded to lowest bidder and published the Notice. We are in a 30 day comment period, due to opposition received from an adjacent neighbor. Project delayed and NPU still needs to complete their work.  21 Fairmont – Out to bid and due back on Friday, November 20th. A Resolution will be submitted to the City Council once bids are received.  270 West Thames St – Public Works will be demolishing the garage. Demolition will be put out to bid soon.  Dog Pound at Mohegan Park - In order to improve water quality testing results, Public Works is working on installing concrete curbing, to contain the wash off from the pound.  Bagged Leaf Collection – City wide leaf pick up begins 11/23/2020. Public Works put an advertisement in the Norwich Bulletin with the notice on 11/11/20 & 11/15/20, also announced on City of Norwich website and Facebook. The notice specifically states “Please do no rake or blow leaves onto any city street.”
