Meeting was called to order by Chairman Spayne at 6:06 p.m.
Motion was made by Mark Bettencourt with a second by John Iovino to accept the
minutes of the November 20, 2008 meeting. Motion passes unanimously.
Recreation Director DePina informed Board members that the Recreation Department
budget has been cut by close to 30%. These cuts will result in the loss of three full time
maintenance positions. It will be physically impossible to maintain fields at existing
levels and playground closures may be a reality.
The spring and summer programs were discussed. The Board was updated on the
summer camp program ,boating program, and other youth programs. Staffing will
remain in place for all programs.
DePina informed Board members that the Hamilton Football project is moving along.
The project will consist of improvements to the practice field and handicapped access
areas.
The Board briefly discussed the closure of the YMCA. It was recommended by Robert
Spayne that the Recreation Department be involved in any discussions between the City
and the YMCA.
A motion to adjourn was made by John Iovino. Meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted
