fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of September 17, 2018 Members in Attendance: Regular members: Chairperson Jacquelyn Randall Frank Jacaruso, Jr., P. Michael Lahan, Laurieann Messore and Alternate member Janice Stewart. Attending staff members were Mike Wolak and Leeann Gomes Chairperson Randall determined there was a quorum and called the meeting to order. Minutes: The minutes from 05/21/18 were approved. Communications: Mike shared a thank you note from TVCCA for supporting MOW fundraiser. We provide a raffle item yearly. Mike also shared a note from a senior that allowed us to use some medical equipment Human Services Report: Leeann stated NAACP renting the center on Nov 3, 2018. Working with schools on lockdown and notification to Sr. center when there is an incident at the schools near us. Our procedure at the center is to go into lockdown if indeed a situation is happening at any of the schools on Mahan Dr. Officer Ferace did a active shooter informational for the Sr. Center staff back in June. Nuclear preparedness drill will be happening in November for the region. OSHA came to evaluate the Sr. Center and no violations were found. Leeann shared stats and reports with the group as well. Senior Center Report: Mike talked about programs and services are going real well. We had 19 new members join in July and another 19 in August. Our RN will be out from October 10-Jan 2nd as she has some field work to do for her APRN. We have contracted with Dr. Walter to cover some appointments 1in the meantime. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: None but stated she will assist as much as possible with things for the Sr. Center. A discussion took place regarding the Opioid epidemic and it was mentioned that Carolyn from the Sr. Center is trained to administer Narcan. Leeann mentioned different things regarding the epidemic specifically in Norwich and what is being done. Old Business: A date will be set up for November to have Michael Lahan give an informational on such things as wills, transfer of assets, etc. New Business: NONE Next Meeting: Monday, October 15, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
