1. Welcome and introductions

• Angelo Callis – NYFS Coordinator
• Erin Wood – NYFS Youth & Family Caseworker
• Jodi Vara – Norwich Free Academy
• Katie Wagner - Norwich Public Schools
• Michael McKinney – Norwich Police Department
2. Review of meetings minutes
• Minutes from last month were provided
3. Program Review/Old Business
• Board membership –
o We need 3 Community Members, 1 application has been received
o Current members need to reapply through the City Manager
o Erin will be inviting Brad Columbus from the Three Rivers Middle College
to attend next month’s meeting and invite him to bring a student as well
• QPR Trainings –
o Always looking for more opportunities to conduct the training
• FWSN/JRB Boards –
o Board meetings are being held monthly
o Anticipated changes with referrals to Board with Truancy referrals no
longer being accepted at the Juvenile Court after this school year
o Markers for success will need to be re-evaluated
• Adult Leadership –
o 20,000 grant received, program will be facilitated by Sherry
• Dime Academy –
o Willing to conduct 3 session Financial Literacy classes for Senior High
School students, hoping to provide incentives for students who complete
to assist them in starting account

• Norwich Youth Action Council
o Family Fun Day event scheduled for 12/7/16 at Senior Center, ages K-4th
grade
• Teen Leadership Council
o Begins today with retreat, 20 kids signed up, including students from
Norwich Tech and 1 from Marine Science Magnet High School
• Girls’ Circle
o TMMS has 5 girls that have been attending with Jodi and is still recruiting
to add more if possible. Already demonstrating some progress in group
o Erin to start a group in January at KMS
• Tutoring
o Hoping to get off the ground soon and looking to find a way to connect
FWSN and JRB kids with the service.
o NFA students to act as tutors
• Speak Out
o Theater program has started recruiting through Bully Busters at TMMS
and will be held on Saturdays in the community
• Cool Directions
o Fully staffed and in process of recruiting High School seniors
• TAO Foundation/Engaging City Leaders
o Angelo spearheading this and completing a power point to continue in
these efforts
o PSA - Attendance Matters Campaign – Rollout and Red Carpet Event
scheduled for 12/5
Norwich Prevention Council Subcommittee –
• Compliance Checks – Will be completed in January
• Coffee House – Nov 30th needed to be rescheduled for various reason. Need
alternative location and Norwich Rec building was discussed. A new date will be
scheduled and proposed to the Rec Dept. for availability
• Suicide Prevention Walk/Week – Erin will explore various items for
giveaways during that week. Team wants to make event memorable, given it’s our
5th year. Team agreed on getting a DJ and a resource was given by Sgt. McKinney,
whom Erin will contact. Prevention Week 4/24-4/28, Walk on 4/29.

• Heroin/Opioid Event – Team explored ideas on how to address warning signs,
and intervention and support, along with providing information on getting
help for self, family or friends. Team landed on an idea for a theater night
event at NFA addressing these topics through use of a theater group of
actors & presenters. Jodi will follow up on access to the atrium at NFA for
a date in March.
