Youth and Family Advisory Board Meeting June 19th, 2018 Time: 8:45 a.m. In Attendance Angelo Callis (NYFS), Erin Haggan (NYFS), Steve Callender (Norwich PD), Tiana Powell (PFS), Pat McMahon (Community Member/Young Marines), Jodi Savage (NFA), Kerri Sisson (Joshua Center) Old Business/Program Updates • City Budget: Angelo reported that they will need to find admin/printer fees which is around $1700. • Mindfulness Program – 5/8 kids at Kelly finished and 6/7 kids at Teachers finished, meeting 45 minutes a day to do yoga and CBT. Most had behavior changes and it did reduce their suspensions. • Wellness Program: The program finished with a Showcase for families, teachers and students. All kids did a dance routine, hula hoop routine and a karate demonstration where they also received their white belts. • Summer Jam: Received a $10,000 grant. Erin and Steve are recruiting kids. New Business • Summer Leadership: Jodi reported that there are 15 incoming 9th graders signed up and there are two on the waiting list. There will be another Leadership for eight current NFA students. • Joining Forces: There were 40 donors for the blood drive which will save 120 lives. Erin reported on their recognition night where the kids were given certificates and the Deputy Chief a plaque. Norwich Prevention Council • Narcan Trainings – Christine is looking to hold Narcan trainings for community workers and city employees. • Compliance Checks/Party Patrols – Alcohol and tobacco checks are in the works and they have to be done separately. From now until August there will be 20 patrols for underage drinking parties. Kids will be brought to JRB or a 7 week program with Christine. Announcements None.
