DISCUSSION
1. Pride Parade
We briefly discussed the success of the Pride Parade the day before, and expressed some relief
that in today’s climate there weren’t any disturbances.
2. Nyack Tourism Grants
Thomas talked about the Nyack Tourism Grants (“NTG”), presenting the package that VN is
using to solicit proposals from applicants. Some highlights:
• Grant amounts between $1,000-$7,500.
• VN will review the grants.
• Preliminary statements of grants can start coming in this week to alert VN to them.
• Deadlines: Due by July 15th, 5PM
• They are starting to get grants in by this week.
• Grants will be submitted to Business Council and then Village Board.
• Grants will implement between September 2023 and May 2024.
• Grant application is simple: two-page form with an explanation of the project, with a
description of the expected outcome. Purpose should be to increase revenue for local
businesses, particularly overnight stays in the Village.
• They prefer repeatable and sustainable activities that can continue on yearly after the
grant is complete.
Application packet has been sent out to a mailing list, posted on Village website, and been
discussed with local business owners.
Thomas said grants can’t be used to produce the event, but are designed for the promotion of
the event. Thomas said that this was based on the way Rockland does grants, and that it would
be difficult for VN to monitor the costs going in to create the event. The applicants do not need
to use VN to market the event, but need to identify the marketing plan. They will be
reimbursed based on invoices.
3. Meeting Thursday with Social Service Agencies
We have a public meeting at 7:30 Thursday on public safety, which will focus on the social
service agencies.
4. Best of Hudson Valley
Joe mentioned that we should get the results of the Best of Hudson Valley voting by Thursday.
5. Cannabis
Joe mentioned that we have our first shop opening, which is going on 59 west of 9W, in the
used car lot. According to Sean Mack, state rules about proximity restricting shops to within
2,000 feet means that we probably will only have two retail shops in the village. Sean noted
that the applicant can start doing deliveries even before the retail store opens.
6. Burger Loft
Mark Davidoff announced that Burger Loft will be opening in the old Hudson Market space.
The owners own four successful restaurants in Rockland, including a brewpub and other Burger
Loft locations.
7. Changes to Business Council
Joe previewed some changes coming to the Business Council, which will be expanded to about
a dozen members that will include a cross section of business owner types as well as
geographies to ensure full representation of businesses on the Council, with ex oficio
representation from business groups like the Chamber and Visit Nyack. That process will begin
later this month and take place over the summer.
