Protection & Welfare Committee Meeting Minutes February 6, 2018 Chairman Rosek called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM. Members Present: Aldermen Rosek, Schmidt and Shaw Staff Present: Mayor Nold, Kitsembel, Buerger, Frye, Gallo, Duffy, Pickart, Sullivan, Steinbach, Osborn, Thakkar and Coenen Others Present: Alds. Kowieski, Ellis, Miller and Strey 2. Consider/recommend Reapproval of the 2018 “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor/Fermented Malt Beverage License to Sobie’s Restaurant, LLC: Coenen reported that on December 19, 2017 Council granted a “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor/Fermented Malt Beverage license to Sobie’s Restaurant located at 123 E. Wisconsin Avenue to sell intoxicating liquor and fermented malt beverages. The owners anticipated an opening date of January 12, 2018 but no later than January 31st. Council granted the license on the condition the Clerk not issue the license until the owners confirm their opening date and if it would be after January, the licensee would need to come back to Council for reapproval. On January 26th, I received notification from the owners, Mike & Lydia Sobol who are in attendance this evening, that due to unexpected delays, they were unable to open the restaurant in January. They have now set their opening for February 14, 2018 and request reapproval of their license. Coenen suggested the Committee put a condition on the reapproval that if the restaurant is not open by March 15th, the Clerk shall not issue the license and reapproval would be necessary. Motion by Shaw to recommend reapproval of the 2018 “Class “B” Intoxicating Liquor/Fermented Malt Beverage license to Sobie’s Restaurant, LLC on the condition the Clerk not issue the license until there is a confirmed opening date, but no later than March 15, 2018; second by Schmidt.
