Call to Order:

Acceptance of Minutes
• Mmutes from the January 11, 2017 were accepted as wntten wtth Carol Hartmann
mot10mng to accept the mmutes. Member Dot Pnce seconded and all voted m favor
Updates and Events:
• AARP Tax Help: Begmnmg on Wednesday February l5 1h, the AARP wtll be domg
taxes at Golden Hours There wtll be three volunteers each Wednesday with
appomtments bemg held at lOam, 11am, 12pm, and 1pm through tax season Chrts
Martmez IS over the group wtth Jantce and Terry as the other AARP Volunteers The last
day for appomtments wtll be Wednesday, Apnll2 1h Dr Nmd asked Ifthe AARP offers .
to file the taxes electromcally Chatr answered that It IS an optiOn to file that way GHS
remmded all that those domg the taxes are volunteers and we appreciate them offenng
thts servtce
• Health Fair: The Health Fatr ts scheduled for September 14th to comctde wtth the annual
flu shots It JS hoped that more members will be able to get their vaccmat10n A letter will
be sent out to vendors to let them know the date has been changed 21 vendors were m
attendance last year Includmg acute medtcal testmg, the Whalen Home, Department of
Veteran's Affatrs and many others Christopher Scott of the VA attended the weekly
veteran's meetmg to asstst our vets w1th benefits and other good mformabon. There were
approximately 20 m attendance for that
• Review of 2016 Major Accomplishments: GHS presented a very productive year last
year

o Received pncmg on the Legacy ProJect patio proJect A committee IS lookmg mto
Blue Zones, which represent areas where people tend to hve longer Edd Bndge IS talkmg
to the group about the patio expansion and the exercise pod establishmg a mim blue zone

o The Ukulele class IS domg great with many begmners as well as the mtermediate players
Dot Pnce IS a member of the Ukulele group and said they performed 13 times this last
year
o Bob Geier commended the kmttmg and crafts group who donated over 2000 Items
handmade Items to the homeless, hospitals, and other orgamzations Dot also recogmzed
the sewmg group for all the blankets made and donated A big thank you to all who
participated
o 30 new trees were planted m the spnng m front of the bmldmg
o The first annual Talent Show was held with many partiCipants and a large audience
o The Golden Hours FoundatiOn has been reactivated with new members
o The 6th Annual Semor Prom dmner and dance was a huge success with photo
opportumties with the Model Ts
o Golden Hours became an established location for the AARP to do taxes for our Semor
Commumty
o The Annual Health Fair was a huge success with over 175m attendance
o Annual Flu Shots Climc was held
o Veterans participated m the annual Veteran's parade This was the 4th year
Chair expressed appreciation to all that 1s bemg done to the staff and all who participate Bob
gave thanks to the volunteers Almost 2000 hours are logged monthly, we cannot do It without
them
• Event Recommendations: Dot expressed mterest m the pipe cleamng class which will be held
on Thursday mommgs at 9am A Begmmng Spamsh class will be taught on Fndays at lOam
Computer classes are offered monthly except m December Chmr suggested mcorporatmg cell
phones mto that class Member Stegen suggested a class to assist members with their personal
computers updates, viruses, etc Paula Pnce recommended a semor games event GHS stated that
attendance numbers throughout January have been very low due to the weather Gene suggested a
Wu bowling League and gam~ng sessiOns A colonng contest IS currently takmg place where
pnzes Will be rewarded
Weber Human Services Report: The Semor Vmce was held at two locations Roy had 33
attend and North VIew had 43 attend Feedback mcluded that IS was a valuable expenence The
event provided a opportunity to ask questiOns to the state representatives Paula presented as well
as the AARP All were given contact mformat10n for those representatives and the step by step
process on how to contact them. Contactmg a representative through email Is the best. Make sure
to Identify yourself as their constituent The more people they hear from the better, It helps the
Issues to be pushed front and center Paula advocates for the semors, however, It IS better If the
semor commumty advocates for themselves as well An update on whether fundmg was received
for the Alternatives and Ombudsman program will hopefully be available at the next meetmg
There IS currently not a lot of discretiOnary fundmg to play with The semor commumty needs to
stay persistent and let our representatives know we need more money for our programs The
Semor V mce event granted a much broader reach than takmg people to the capitol The
Preventative Health Fundmg will be used to establish evidence based programs, such as the
Livmg Well with Chrome Conditions Paula's plans to use fundmg to have facilitators run
programs Instructors are needed and will be paid and will be tramed and will be responsible to
tum m paperwork to Paula to hand mto the State Paula stated that the Walk with Ease program

may be a good option with Golden Hours with the park so close Drrectors will be asked to
decide which programs will work best with therr centers
New Business:
• Welcome Chris Stegen Chns IS our Lme dance mstructor on Fnday mommgs. She tnes
to keep It fresh with usmg new dances and new mustc
• The Newsletter IS hked by all Carol Hartmann stated she hkes the photos m the
newsletters and stated that they are very mterestmg
• Field Tnps are posted and announced at lunchtimes Field trips do fill up qmckly. Field
tnps which have been taken are Willow Park m Logan, Mrs Ftelds, Promontory Pomt,
the Airforce Museum, Fort Douglas, Gardner VIllage, Museum ofNatural History, and
the Nature Center. Suggestions were the aquanum and the Botanical Gardens. The van
that IS used IS from the Ctty and IS m need of updatmg Bob IS m communication with the
City to update to a transit van Paula suggested applymg for 5310 funds.
