MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Jake McIntire, Jan Hamer, Susan Campbell, Cam McLeod, Shane Osguthorpe, Franco Cirilo, Todd Oberndorfer, Jessica McCowin, Camille Washington, Brandon Long Excused: Absent: Scott Patria Staff Present: Lorie Buckley, Beth Bell Tuesday, October 12, 2021 –8:33 A.M. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Susan Campbell • Approval of September minutes. Motion to approve – Cirilo Franco, Todd Oberndorfer • Subcommittee Updates – • Susan- Executive Committee- Will meet the last Tuesday of each month. They are working on a new committee handbook. Also discussed with full committee to use the December meeting as a closed workshop session to review the Arts Master Plan. Full committee agreed. • Shane- Arts Grants- Sub Committee is reviewing last years guidelines and questions for new cycle. A grant scoring workshop will be planned for reviews to mitigate extreme score disparities. New grant cycle will close a month earlier in on Feb 15, 2022. Full grant transmittal with funding recommendations is due to administration by the last week of April. New cycle will run much faster. • Jan- Literary- Working on releasing a call to find a new Poet Laureate. Abe Smith will finish his term at the end of this year. His last public appearance will be at the Dumke Grand Opening on December 3rd. Jan is also working on an Open Mic Night project for the Dumke Plaza and or OCA (in bad weather). Lorie suggested that someone could write for an art grant to support this program. Committee will look to highlight Abe Smith in the new Ogden Connection Magazine issue. • Jake- Nine Rails- This committee is working on how best to support the Nine Rails Creative District. What funding is available, what city governance is in place or needs to be implemented, etc. This committee is not focused on programming. They reviewed the district boundaries, and the Nine Rails Master Plan from 2017. The will next meet with Sara Meess, Lorie Buckley, and ODA to work on getting things moving. Susan will share subcommittee meeting schedule with the full committee if anyone wants to attend any of the meetings. • New Committee Members- The process to add new committee members was discussed. All new applications will be loaded on to the Arts Committee Google Drive along with a shared scoresheet. Committee will review and score members. The past members that had applied before the new citywide system was in place will be contacted with the option to apply through the new process. The committee can add up to 5 members, but the dance and folk seats will need to be filled as part of the new members. The committee will review the applications and discuss in the November meeting. • Events– Lorie Buckley • Mayor’s Awards- scheduled for November 18, 2021 at the Union Station Browning Theater. 6pm cocktail hour, 7pm program starts. We will highlight the 2020 and 2021 honorees. Please plan to help with set up or tear down if you have time. • Utah Arts Alliance Connect event was held for the first time in Ogden on September 29. The next event will be held on October 27 in the Union Station Lobby. Artists that participate have the chance to win part of a $4000 grant. This program will continue quarterly. • Community Art Show has been successful. The Sustainability show is up in Gallery 51 (Union Station). The new show will open at the beginning of December and will be themed Holiday Cultures. These shows will continue quarterly as well. • FFAS- no updates • Public Art – Lorie Buckley, Jake McIntire • Arts Grants update: Grants will open January 3, 2022 and close February 15, 2022. Lorie is looking for a better submission process than the fillable PDF’s. Submittable and Google Docs were suggested as options. • BRT Art: RFQ for artists is currently open and will close on November 1st. The selection committee will the review and select artists for each station. Artwork is due to UTA by February 2022. • Dumke Plaza: Plaza grand opening has been moved to December 3rd due to supply chain issues. Construction will continue till completion. • Corner Plaza: On pause due to contractor schedule. Project should resume in the spring. (March or April) Public Art Subcommittee members will be invited to attend future meetings. River of Light needs to be inspected, it may not be working. Nine Rails subcommittee to look for future public art locations/projects. Visit Ogden has released the Ogden Outdoor Art Trail. https://www.visitogden.com/blog/ogden- outdoor-art-trail/ • Committee News and upcoming events • Brandon – n/a Franco – Day of the Dead celebration at the Monarch Nov 1-5th Free to Public Sugar skulls, face painting, Art, Music, Latino Film Fest, Covid Vaccine Clinic and OFOAM concert. • Scott – absent • Jake- Jake has been awarded the first fellowship of the Matthew S Browning Center for Design at WSU. He is working on how the design center will work with students, faculty, and the community. Congrats Jake!!  • Camille – Onstage Ogden is performing at the Monarch on 10/12/2020 Email Camille for tickets.
