MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Jake McIntire, Jan Hamer, Susan Campbell, Cam McLeod, Shane Osguthorpe, Franco Cirilo, Todd Oberndorfer, Jessica McCowin, Camille Washington, Brandon Long Excused: Franco Cirilo Absent: Scott Patria Staff Present: Lorie Buckley, Regina Esparza, Christy McBride, Christina Hernandez Tuesday, November 9, 2021 –8:30 A.M. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Susan Campbell • Approval of November minutes. Motion to approve – Todd Oberndorfor, Jan Hamer • Guest: Christy McBride – Ogden City Arts, Culture & Events Division Manager • Overview of ACE structure and OCAAC support for Arts • Christy McBride went over the ACE structure, Vision, Mission and Pillars of the Ogden ACE team. She gave the committee a full breakdown including the budget and positions so that they had a better understanding of the team. Plus, explained their position as an Arts Advisory Committee. • Subcommittee Updates – • Susan- Executive Committee- They met a couple weeks ago and discussed the masterplan that they will go over with the committee in December. Jake suggested a pre meeting with the Exec, Christy, Gina and Lorie if needed. The committee is also working on a new page for new committee members. • Shane- Arts Grants- The committee has met 2x about the grant forms. They updated the questionnaire about Covid-19, They thought about having onuses to have stuff done in other areas besides 9Rails to grow the area of Ogden in the Arts. New information will need to be converted into Spanish soon. • Jan- Literary- Jan said it time to put out a call for the new poet laureate. Jan said she will reach out to past applicants to see if they are interested in reapplying for the new year. She’d like to have open mics and to be able to pay for artists so she may apply for a small grant. Cam also spoke about a publication he is working on to have literary work inside. • Jake- Nine Rails- They met with Sara and Lorie to discuss how the district stands with city planning. Sat in on the marketing meeting for the Dumke Arts Plaza. Lorie went over the breakdown of the event VIP event that is by invite only and the ribbon cutting open to the public. • New Committee Members- Lorie went over the new arts committee voting. Not everyone turned in their vote by the deadline. I let everyone know that we do have a top five and will resent the info about voting, so we have more feedback from the committee. Once that is done Gina will let Susan know so the committee can set-up interviews with the people to see if they are a good fit. • Events– Regina Esparza • Mayor’s Awards- scheduled for November 18, 2021, at the Union Station Browning Theater. 6pm cocktail hour, 7pm program starts. We will highlight the 2020 and 2021 honorees. Regina let everyone know she was still waiting on RSVPs from the committee and gave another deadline. • Utah Arts Alliance Connect event was held on October 27 in the Union Station Lobby. Artists that participate have the chance to win part of a $4000 grant. This program will continue quarterly. There were lots of Ogden participants in the show and appreciated the program coming to Ogden to help helps join in on their first show. • Community Art Show has another show coming up in December for the holidays. Voting will be done during the FFAS with a private reception after. • FFAS- Gina was out and about during the stroll and went to The Monarch for the Dia de Los Muertos event. There were lots of people out. She also talked about Fox 13 doing segments about the FFAS. • Public Art – Lorie Buckley, Jake McIntire • Arts Grants update: Grants will open January 3, 2022, and close February 15, 2022. The turn around time is going to be quick. • BRT Art: The reviews of the BRT are due on Friday, there were 68 submissions. • Dumke Plaza: Plaza grand opening has been moved to December 3rd due to supply chain issues. Construction will continue till completion. Chakaia Booker will be in town on Nov 15-17 for the installation of the new exhibit. Cam will interview her for the video. • Corner Plaza: Lorie showed the photos of the updates made on the sculpture. Construction will start in April. Jake said that the opportunity for public art in Lester Park is on hold til it is known what will happen for long and short term of the area. The city contact is Greg Montgomery. • Arts Master Plan – Jake McIntire • Jake went over the air table spread sheet of the objective, strategies, and goals. The executive committee and Lorie have access. A meeting will be held before with the subcommittee and any staff wanting to join. They will go line by line on each item about the arts master plan. The Marshall White Center was brought up and Camille said that a large group will be showing up to the City Council meeting tonight in support of the MWC. It was talked about it being a recreational/cultural center. Gina spoke about the survey and about how the arts committee can help collaborate in the future. It was suggested that the committee can have individual letters or a group letter to send to city council about their thoughts. • Committee News and upcoming events • Brandon – Thanked Gina for the FFAS on the Fox 13 news segments and the exposure. Franco – Day of the Dead celebration at the Monarch Nov 1-5th Free to Public Sugar skulls, face painting, Art, Music, Latino Film Fest, Covid Vaccine Clinic and OFOAM concert. • Scott – absent • Jake- Jake has been awarded the first fellowship of the Matthew S Browning Center for Design at WSU. He is working on how the design center will work with students, faculty, and the community.
