• Welcome and Call to Order – Susan Campbell
• Approval of February minutes:
Motion to approve – Todd, Jan
• Rent A Sculpture -Scott
• Scott talked about having an art piece that he saw in Arizona be brought to Ogden.
Instead of renting it, it would be to purchase since the cost was a lot more. The possible
placement was over the bridge by Ogden Brewery. Lorie said they’d have to talk to legal and see
about the process. If everyone was on board from the committee then more could be looked into
but if not, then there was no need to proceed with this project.
• Intro of New Committee Members- Lorie
• Lorie introduced the new Arts Advisory Members, and each said a few things about
themselves.
• Ogden Arts Grants –updates – Lorie
• The grants are being reviewed at this time by the sub-committee and will proceed for
approvals from the city council after.
• Public Arts Projects – Lorie
• The Dumke Plaza updates are almost done. The beacon is getting fixed, painted and
lights are being added. Foundation wants the colors to be gradient not blocked on the beacon.
There was also a delay due to cold weather
• Ogden Avenue is a little behind due to the waterline and will hopefully start at the end of
March and be done in June.
• The Corner Plaza will line up with the Ogden Avenue project. Funds will be reallocated
and go in front of the City Council. Hopefully, it will be done in early Fall.
• The BRT artists were chosen, and they are working on their designs. Once they are in the
Arts Committee and UTA will review them.
• Susan will be joining the MWC Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow to explain the
money that is available to possibly use at the center before the end of the fiscal year in June. Jake
and Jan will also be joining virtually.
• Sub-Committee – Susan explained what the sub-committees do and their roles.
• Nine Rails Creative District – Camille talked about what the East Central Steering Plan
Community would like to see happen in the Nine Rails. People are invested in the area.
There is hope to have public art at Lester Park or have something planned for the area.
• Literary- Jan – She spoke about the Poet Laureate event during the art stroll and how it
was well attended. It was brought up that public art can also be done in a literary way.
Deanne said she would join this sub-committee to help support.
• Public Art-Jake –. Most of the info was covered earlier.
• Arts Grants- Shane – The grants are being reviewed and is excited for what is to come.
• Executive – Susan – the minor public art fund was mentioned and how it can help small
projects on a quick turnaround. The CIP projects were talked about how the city decides
what projects are next. Jake said he’d like to meet with the directors to let them know that
the committee exists and how they are available to help support in any way they can.
Lorie said she would check with Christy.
• Public Questions & Attendance -
• Jeremy Shinoda – Ogden City Diversity Committee
• Said thanks for what the committee does and sent out the link for the Marshall
White Advisory Committee meeting in case anyone was interested in joining.
More Information:
Camille – Onstage Ogden has the Utah Symphony Beethoven No 6 coming to the Astad
Theatre on March 24th at 7:30 p.m. Then on April 21st the Utah Symphony Cirque De La
Symphonie at 7:30 p.m. Good Company Theatre has the Man and Moon play happening
from March 24th -April 10th.
Jan – She explained that she would be in Germany for two months teaching and is
planning a visit to the Hass sister city to take the small horse that was decorated. Jan also
has a book coming out and will schedule readings when she returns.
Susan- Nex Ensemble has a performance at OCA for the Women in Music event on
March 12th at 7 p.m.
Cam- It is a busy season for him. He is still working the Salty Magazine with Todd. They
have the website up and are creating content. If anyone is interested in being part of the
project reach out to him.
Jo- Talked about Take Back the Night he is the keynote speaker and is out of town now
with students from his class for a project.
Jake- Brought up about the DonRimx videos. Cam said he has done videos with a small
write-up he did. Lorie would like a full package to share out all the information.
Todd- He asked about having a printed map of public art made. Lorie let him know we
have a GIS map on our city website with all the stops. Gina sent the link in the group
chat.
Gina – She let the committee know about the Ogden Arts Festival happening in June and
that she would be sending out a sign-up sheet for times later. She also asked about the
SLC Arts Living Traditions event in May if it was something that the committee would
be interested in. Shane brought up that at events he goes to people are always asking
about Ogden and saying so much is happening. It would be good to start going to events
to help promote what the city is doing in the arts. In the end it was said that maybe the
SLC event is something that wouldn’t fit for the committee but to keep them posted on
other events to be part of.
.
