MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Jake McIntire, Susan Campbell, Shane Osguthorpe, Todd Oberndorfer, Jessica McCowin, Scott Patria, Cam McLeod, Franco Cirilo, Jan Hamer, Brandon Long, Leon Araujo Excused: Camille Washington Absent: Staff Present: Lorie Buckley, Regina Esparza, Derek Williamson Tuesday, February 8, 2022, 2022 –8:30 A.M. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Susan Campbell • Approval of January minutes: Motion to approve – Shane, Franco • New Committee Members-Lorie • Lorie went over the names of the new members. They are allowed to join the meeting but not vote yet until they approved by City Council. The committee is now at full capacity. • Ogden Arts Grants –updates – Lorie, Susan • The deadline is this Friday, February 11th at 4 p.m. Lorie will set up a zoom meeting with the review panel sometime next week. She went over some guidelines that will be used during the process. Any new committee members can join the sub-committee if they are interested in learning the process. • Public Arts Projects – Lorie • The permit is approved for Ogden Avenue and should start construction at the beginning of April. At some point there will be no access to the plaza during the construction process. • The Beacon is still being worked on and Chakaia Booker’s exhibit will be up until September 2022. • The Corner Plaza is having some budget issues due to the growing costs of construction items going up. Ideally construction should still begin in April as planned, with a possible ribbon cutting happening in late July, early August. • The BRT designs were reviewed, and the artists were selected. She emailed the committee the list of names and said if anyone can meet with any of the artists having questions about the community, they are able to reach out by email. The sample pieces will be reviewed by UTA, Arts Committee and others involved. • There still is $5000 available in funds to use for a small activity. Susan will talk about the pop-up mural to do at the Marshall White Center a little later. • Arts Master Plan – Lorie • Susan said she will be ready to review and start the presentation with Jake and they will be ready to present in April hopefully. • Sub-Committee - Susan • Nine Rails Creative District – no updates and no chair currently • Literary- Jan – The Poet Laureate call has been extended to Friday, February 25th. Abraham told jan that it might be good to have co-laureates one for children and the other for adults. Just so one can focus on the schools that he started to do during his time. Jan and Susan will be meeting with one of the candidates on Thursday to ask a few questions. • Public Art-Jake – He spoke about the grassroots momentum happening at Lester Park. There is a FB committee that is working to get things going to have projects started there. The idea is to see what the OCAAC can do to help with funding and come up with ideas. A meeting to talk to the Planning Department about having the committee included on the art development will need to be had. Lorie will set something up with Sara Mees, Brandon Cooper, and Greg Montgomery. • Arts Grants- Shane – The sub-committee met and set-up the scoring and talked about it so that way everyone was on the same page. If anyone is interested in joining, they are welcome to help in the process. • Executive – Susan – The committee will have a welcome orientation by zoom with all the new members and if anyone is interested in joining let her know so they receive an invite. If there is anything that needs to be addressed or have questions on feel free to reach out to Lorie, Susan, or anyone on the executive committee. • It was mentioned about the taggers doing damage to murals in the area. It was suggested to have a marketing campaign, check with artists, and put in the art call about the paint colors used so it can be fixed. • Marshall White Center – Susan • She sent an email to the Marshall White Advisory Committee and to the chair Sean. She will be hoping to explain more in detail about what the Arts Committee is hoping to help with. • Public Questions & Attendance - • Jeremy Shinoda – Ogden City Diversity Committee • Let the Diversity Committee know about the temporary art at the MWC. More Information: Lorie introduced Cat Taylor who is the student intern helping her out with the Arts Grants process. Todd and Brandon spoke about Van Sessions 6-year anniversary celebration at the art stroll on Friday. Plus, the 12-year Anniversary of the Ogden Outdoor Adventure Show. • Adjourn • Motion to Adjourn – Jan • 2nd – Shane • 9:49 a.m. – meeting adjourned.
