MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Susan Campbell, Shane Osguthorpe, Todd Oberndorfer, Cam McLeod, Franco Cirilo, Camille Washington, Kseniya Thomas, Stephanie Howerton, Joseph Blake, Deann Armes, Jake McIntire Excused: Jan Hamer, Scott Patria, Absent: Brandon Long, Leon Araujo, Jessica McCowin Staff Present: Lorie Buckley, Regina Esparza Tuesday, May 10, 2022 –8:30 A.M. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Susan Campbell • Approval of April minutes: Motion to approve – Todd, 2nd motion Stephanie • Introduce New Poet Laureate –Susan • Angelica introduced herself to the committee. Freelancing writing visits schools, and teaches students about poetry, she does Poetry Slams and all things arts. • Marshall White Center Art Update – Susan • A mural pop-up was being talked about or a sidewalk design to do this summer. There is a MWC meeting tomorrow with the Art Subcommittee update on the agenda. • Arts Festival Sign-up – Regina • A sign-up sheet is available for anyone able to help. Anyone part of an organization is welcome to bring info about it to the table during the Ogden Arts Festival. There are three shifts each day for three hours if anyone can help. Gina will email anyone who volunteers with more info. • Ogden Arts Grants - Lorie • $50k extra money was given to the Ogden Arts Grants process. Lorie explained how the council decided on adding more funds for this year. A ratified vote needs to be done today. Susan asked all members and there was a motion to approve grant funding at 100% for this year by  Jake. All members present were in agreeance with the exception of Camille who is abstaining. Action Taken: Motion to approve full funding of eligible art grant applications has passed. • The grantees will be aware of the situation once Lorie sends out the funding notifications. The average ask has been about or about $200k. • The marketing will have more info about it when it does open up, so people are aware of the funding. • Public Arts Projects – Lorie • The Dumke Plaza and Hogan have started the extension. Arts plaza beacon is coming along with the lights being updated. By the end of summer, everything should be updated and done. • The Corner Plaza architects are finishing the plans for construction. We are still waiting for money approval that had to be moved around due to the changes. CIP money is in the process of approval for the fiscal year. Hoping that it will be started soon and done by early Fall. • The BRT line art is in the process of approval through UTA to continue the process. The BRT will be done in August with an opening that everyone can attend. • Information statements need to be worked on so that once the BRT and Dumke plaza is done a new project can be started. • Information: Lorie wants to talk about decommissioning old/ broken public art. Jake and Susan will send Lorie some info as to what Logan and Salt Lake City are doing for this process in their cities. • Sub-Committee – Susan • Executive – Susan –The committee worked on a presentation for the city council about the arts master plan. Every December a review of the master plan will be reviewed each year to make sure it is being done. Jake showed some portion of their presentation that showed the pie charts about goals and what they mean. • Nine Rails Creative District – Leon – Jake and Leon met to know about what it means to be a chair on the committee but no other • Literary- Jan – They met and no official and Deann talked about her insert in the Standard-Examiner about Arts, Culture and Entertainment. Focused in the Ogden area and Lorie explained that there could be a bit of confusion since our department has Arts, Culture, and Events too. They discussed the Poet Laureate’s duties and what she can do. Lorie will update • Public Art-Jake –. No new updates. • Arts Grants- Shane – There was a subcommittee meeting but only Lorie and Susan showed up too. Any updates about the way the process went should be discussed now so it can be changed.
