MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Jake McIntire, Chair; Jan Hamer; Camille Washington; Shane Osguthorpe; Leon Araujo; Scott Patria; Stephanie Howerton; Susan Campbell; R. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Jake McIntire, Chair • Approval of September Minutes • Motion to approve – Jan Hamer • 2nd motion – Todd Oberndorfer • Mayor’s Awards Event Recap – Lorie Buckley • Feedback provided on the 2022 event, as well as suggestions for future Mayor’s Awards programming. • New Member Applications – Voting and Interview Process Update – Lorie Buckley • Reviewed current and forthcoming vacancies on the Committee, as well as criteria for new member consideration. • Reviewed new member application Committee ballot results. • Interviews will be conducted with the top six new member applicants. • Public Art Updates – BRT Line, The Corner – Lorie Buckley • The Corner Project • Building permit is anticipated soon. • Ribbon cutting expected in summer 2023. • If the artists attend the ribbon cutting, associated events will be planned. • BRT Line • Artwork adjustments to accommodate the station columns have been submitted. • Artwork installation is expected to be complete by fall 2023. • Ribbon cutting ceremony will follow. • A public relations and documentation strategy will be implemented to tell the story of each piece as they are completed. • Next Project Update • The Committee will provide a ranked suggestion of its top five projects by next month. • Suggestions will go to Ogden City Directors and Planning Commission in January. • Committee discussed public art projects for consideration. • Upcoming Artist Call – Lorie Buckley • Painted Horse for Special Recognition requested by City Council. • RFP will open December 15 and close February 28. • Marshall White Center – Circle Sign Structure RFP – Lorie Buckley • Engineering research continues. • Updates will be provided as available. • December Meeting Preparations – Jake McIntire, Chair • December OCAAC meeting will focus on the annual review of the Ogden City Master Plan for Arts and Culture. • Sub-Committees • Executive – Jake McIntire, Chair • Nine Rails Creative District – Leon Araujo • Discussed boundaries of the Nine Rails Creative District. • Committee to conduct an audit of the Nine Rails Creative District Master Plan before December OCAAC meeting. • Literary – Jan Hamer • Discussed literary arts programming at Dumke Arts Plaza. • Lorie Buckley shared Ogden Poet Laureate Angelika Brewer’s forthcoming project “Love Letters to Ogden.” ▪ Soft ribbon cutting anticipated for the February 2023 First Fridays Art Stroll. • Public Art – Jake McIntire, Chair • Arts Grants – Shane Osguthorpe • Arts Grants expected to be open from January 9 through February 10. ▪ Dates may adjust due to grant software procurement process. • Subcommittee will review the 2022 arts grants application questions to finalize the 2023 application. • Utah Office of Tourism EDA grants were submitted at the end of October for the Kiesel Art Project, as well as a $100,000 economic impact study. • Committee Info: • Leon Araujo – Recapped the Día De Los Muertos event at Union Station. • R. Brandon Long – Announced podcast rebranding to “Ogden Arts and Adventure Show.” • Jake McIntire, Chair – Statewide Annual exhibit is open at Ogden Contemporary Arts. • Jan Hamer - Weber State University’s “Metaphor” event to be held November 18 at the Happy Magpie. • New bookstore opening in Ogden next month. • Public Questions & Attendance • Jeremy Shinoda • Recapped the Día De Los Muertos event at Ben Lomond High School.
