DC Meeting Recording
1. Welcome.
2. Roll Call.
3. Action Item - approval of minutes from 07/13/2022.
a. Commissioner Lundell made a motion to approve 07/13/22 minutes. Commission
Ipsen seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
4. New Business.
a. Current events in the community - Chair
i. Chair Bernal shared the following events in the community.
On October 8th, the Dia De Los Muertos Celebration and Parenting Elevated
event will be held at Ben Lomond High School. The Commission will be tabling
there. Please sign up if you would like to attend through the link that CJ sent
out.
Hispanic Heritage Festival at Union Station on October 15th. The Commission
will be tabling this event. Please sign up if you would like to help with the
tabling.
NAACP and Betty Sawyer would like to organize a Marshall White Center Town
Hall. The date is to be determined, but possibly October 22nd. We would like
someone from the Commission to be represented at that town hall.
Nurture the Creative Mind has a Dia De Los Muertos event at Union Station as
well. This is not a tabling event for the Commission.
The Diversity Summit is October 28th at the City Creek Marriott. The
Commission does have funds available if anyone would like to attend this event.

b. City Council Executive Director - Brandon Garside - (Youth Council) -

i. Brandon Garside has been filling in with the Youth Council since Ross left. The new
Policy Analyst is Warren Hallmark who will be taking over the Youth Council.
Brandon gave a presentation on what the Youth Council is and what they will be
doing. Only students from Ogden Schools can apply to be on the Youth Council.

c. Honorary Street naming review - Barton Brierley, Planning Manager
i. Barton Brierley spoke about honorary street naming in Ogden City. The street
keeps its original name, but the honorary name will be displayed above the original
street name. Mr. Brad Timothy applied for two proposed honorary street names,
Miles Goodyear Avenue & Pomona Avenue. Barton gave a presentation on the
history of Miles Goodyear and his Native American wife, Pomona. A & B Avenue are
the proposed streets that would be renamed with the honorary street names.
Planning is asking for the Diversity Co
(please see recording for full presentation). The proposed name changes would go
to the Planning Commission in October and then on to the City Council after that.
d. Wasteless Solutions - Isaac Farley - Ogden project manager
i. Isaac Farley gave a presentation on a non-profit organization called Wasteless
Solutions. This non-profit food waste from farms, food manufacturers,
restaurants/grocery stores, and promotes education so there is less food waste in
the home. They use a mobile app called Food Rescue US to connect food donors
with non-profit agencies (see recording for full presentation).
e. Recommendations for City Council Recognitions for November (American Indian
Heritage), February (African American History Month) Chair
i. Please enter your recommendations in the google doc for these recognitions.
There is not a date from City Council for November or February yet.
5. Committee Reports.
a. No committee reports.
6. Old Business.
a. CJ reminded the Commission that the Christmas Village Cottage submission deadline
is closing soon. Commissioner Szalay has submitted a design idea and it has been
seconded and thirded by Commission members. Commissioner Szalay would like to
put all his photos on display in the cottage that celebrates diversity. The cottage does
need some work done to it. The cottage has been asked to be used by another group if
the Commission decides not to enter a cottage this year at the Christmas Village. The
cottages are setup right after Thanksgiving if not sooner. A committee needs to be put
together as soon as possible and the Commission needs to decide this soon. CJ will
send out an email for a vote and decision.
7. Comments from Staff. (E
a. Mara just wanted to remind the Commission when they are doing their nominations for
City Council recognitions to keep the limit to four recognitions.
8. Comments from Commission Members.
a. Commissioner Gil reported that a student from Latinos in Action at Ben Lomond High
contacted her stating the Black Student Union and the Latinos in Action would like to
put together a mural that staff and attendees can participate in at the Dia De Los
Muertos event. Commissioner Gil will send her information out to the Commission for
their coordination.
