/MINUTES Ogden Diversity Commission Virtual-Zoom WEDNESDAY, October 12, 2022 – 4:30 PM In Attendance: Stacy Bernal, Jessica Adams, Kari Harbath Kevin Lundell, Christine Ipsen, Tom Szalay Excused: Monica Gil, Haillee VanPatten, Rebecca Tierney Absent: Colt Jarvis Ogden City Staff Present: Meggin Hill, Anne-Marie Birk Guests: Sandy Drew, Terri McCullock Recording will be posted with the minutes here: DC Meeting Recording 1. Welcome. 2. Roll Call. 3. Action Item - approval of minutes from 09/14/2022. a) Commissioner Ipsen made a motion to approve 09/14/22 minutes. Commissioner Lundell seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. 4. New Business. a) Current events in the community - Chair i) On October 8th, the Commission tabled the Dia De Los Muertos event that occurred at Ben Lomond High School. This was a great event and the Commission enjoyed connecting with the community. ii) On October 15th, 12:00 - 7:00 p.m., the LUPEC Hispanic Festival will be at the Union Station. This is an event that the Commission will be tabling. iii) October 22nd, NAACP is hosting a Marshall White Townhall - The Commission would like to have a presence. Stacy will attend, but if any other Commissioners are interested in attending, please let her know. iv) October 28th, Salt Lake County Business Diversity Conference- registration can be covered by the City if any Commissioner is interested in attending. Rebecca, Monica, and Kari are currently registered. b) Second Baptist Girl Scouts- Sandy Drew i) Sandy Drew with the Second Baptist Girl Scout troop presented information about her girl scouts. She would love for the Commission to help with upcoming fundraisers or referrals for new girl scouts (please see meeting recording for full presentation). c) League of Women Voters (Tentative) - Terri McCullock i) Terri McCullock with the League of Women Voters presented on their organization (please see meeting recording for full presentation). d) Recommendations for City Council Recognitions for November (Native American Indian Heritage), February (Black History Month) – Chair i) City Council recognitions for November are due to Meggin on October 26th. Currently we have three nominations and need one more. Please add your nomination to the google doc. Also, please remember if you nominate someone, please notify them of the meeting and get a photo from them for their bio. 5. Committee Reports. a. No committee reports this month. 6. Old Business. a. Name change proposal review - Miles Goodyear and Pamona Avenues in West Ogden i) The Commission discussed the proposed street name changes. They decided that they didn’t think it was necessary to make these changes since the ballpark is currently named after Mile Goodyear and there is another street also named after him. They would like to leave room for other recognitions. They also thought there might be some questionable history with Miles Goodyear. Kevin will work on a letter reporting the Commission’s concerns to be sent to the planning department. b. Christmas cottage update i) The Commission made the decision not to do a Christmas Cottage this year due to time constraints. They will start planning early next year and create an awesome display for next year. 7. Comments from Staff. a. Meggin reported that there has been a lot of great applicants for the Diversity Affairs Coordinator position, which will be closing soon. The person selected will start when CJ returns at the end of November so they can be trained. 8. Comments from Commission Members. 9. Public comment: This is an opportunity to address the Commission regarding concerns or ideas on any topic.
