Sustainability Committee

Minutes of the meeting of the Sustainability Committee held Thursday, November 21st, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in-person at the city offices and via electronic web conferencing in accordance with Utah Code 52-4-202. Members Present: Dan Bedford Julez Garcia Stephanie Vaughn Julie Casey Erika McDonald Tara Saley Jonathan Melton Derek Martinez-Lopez Members Absent: Taylor Lee Kaiya Clark Lena Morgan Ex-Officio: Lorenzo Long Steve Burton Guests/Public: CALL TO ORDER / WELCOME / ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS • Dan called the meeting to order, Lorenzo called the roll. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES • Erika made a motion to approve the October 24th, 2024 meeting minutes. Stephanie seconded the motion. The meeting minutes were unanimously approved. ACTION ITEMS FROM PREVIOUS MEETING • Draft letter to the city council answering their questions about biweekly recycling pickup – Recycling Subcommittee • Send Dan feedback on sunset report by the 11/22 – All Committee Members • Send Lorenzo the sunset report by 11/25 – Dan • Fill out subcommittee membership spreadsheet – All Committee Members • Determine whether information can be sent out via utility bills – Lorenzo o Yes in the water bill but not in the electricity or gas bills. • Figure out Momentum Recycling pricing – Lorenzo • Suggest potential in-person meeting dates – Lorenzo • Send STAR rating information to Dan – Stephanie DRAFT SUNSET REPORT • Dan presented the draft sunset report. 1|Page  • Several edits were made to the report by the committee, including reformation of the goals in the report. • The committee decided to take a virtual committee picture to use in the report. • The committee discussed whether or not to request additional changes to the committee ordinance. Some committee members were in favor of requesting changes that broaden the committee’s scope, whereas others were in favor of waiting to make those recommendations until after the sunset report is given and the extension to the sunset date is received. The committee decided to wait until after the sunset report. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS • Energy Wise Subcommittee o No updates at this time. • EV Charging/Parking Subcommittee o No updates at this time. • Recycling Subcommittee o Working on a K-12 recycling sticker design competition. o Will eventually tour the Kimberly-Clark facility. o Will build an educational handout for business recycling in Ogden. o Lorenzo presented a draft report of findings for the Twilight Concert Series recycling efforts. IN-PERSONAL ONLY MEETING DATES 2025 • The committee decided to have in-person-only meetings for the first month of each quarter of the year. Jonathan and Julie suggested reviewing our annual goals at each of those meetings. PUBLIC COMMENTS • N/A OPEN DISCUSSION • Lorenzo encouraged all committee members to attend the sunset report presentation on either December 10th or 17th.
