The meeting minutes were unanimously approved.
ACTION ITEMS FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
• Send updated meeting invitation for in-person meetings – Lorenzo
o Will send after this meeting
SUNSET REPORT PRESENTATION REVIEW
• Erika said that Dan did a really good job giving the presentation to the council.
• Jonathan mentioned that Councilmember White asked if the committee was doing anything about water, noting
that we haven’t had much precipitation this winter.
• Dan also invited the council to the Intermountain Sustainability Summit, and Lorenzo gave the information to
the Executive Director of the council to put on the calendar.
• The committee discussed Councilmember Hyer’s comments about evaluating the new Recycled Earth facility.
Lorenzo mentioned that the city had put out an RFP for recycling services, and that perhaps Recycled Earth had
responded to that. He mentioned that Recycled Earth is closer than Wasatch Integrated, so it would result in

less miles driven by the refuse trucks. It is also possible that the city utilizes multiple providers depending on
proximity.
AIR QUALITY CAMPAIGN
• Lorenzo said that he got an email from a resident asking the Sustainability Committee to explore the possibility
of doing an air quality campaign.
• This could take a few forms
o Public outreach campaign
Social media, educational materials, etc.
o Internal campaign
White paper, suggested strategies for air quality improvement, air quality monitors, etc.
This paper could be distributed through Lorenzo to the city council, the mayor, etc.
• Tara mentioned vanpooling as a potential strategy. She feels that public outreach on air quality is pretty well
covered.
• Jonathan liked the white paper idea, as it could discuss the sources of the pollution such as tires, wood stoves,
etc, and determine what is within the city’s control. What are the biggest sources that we have control over.
• The committee discussed the Running Up for Air series, and potential funding that could come from that to help
with air quality in Ogden.
• The committee discussed a temporary subcommittee for this issue, that could perhaps replace the EV
Subcommittee.
PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER GROUPS
• Lorenzo was contacted by the environmental group from Northrop Grumman, who wanted to potentially
collaborate with the Sustainability Committee. They have 20-25 active members. Lorenzo mentioned the
Twilight Concert recycling as a potential opportunity.
• Lena is involved with Ogden Friends of Acoustic Music (OFOAM) and the festival they do every year. They have
a great system for recycling and waste management, and could probably give the committee some best
practices.
• Lena mentioned the NRCS has an urban conservationist based in Ogden. She said that this position cannot
solicit cities to participate, but we can reach out to them.
SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
• Energy Wise Subcommittee
o Julie Casey will be taking over as lead for the subcommittee.
o Lorenzo mentioned the Weber Industrial Training and Assessment Center, and that it could be good
for the business goals in the Energy Wise plan. He mentioned doing another business roundtable and
would like the subcommittee’s help with that.
o Erika asked about any potential additional funding leftover from the development of the Energy Wise
plan. Lorenzo said he does not think there is any. And, he thinks that the city probably never directly
received any of the money, which probably went to others who helped develop the plan.
• EV Charging/Parking Subcommittee
o No updates at this time.
• Recycling Subcommittee
o Working on recycling sticker competition. Lorenzo talked to the arts staff at the city and they liked the
idea.
PUBLIC COMMENTS

OPEN DISCUSSION
2|Page
• Lorenzo reminded the committee that the first committee meeting of each quarter will be in-person.
