City of Olathe City Council 501 E Old 56 Highway | Olathe Police Department | Special Call Monday | March 24, 2025 | 6:00 PM Annual Joint City Council/School Board Meeting Dinner 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM 1. CALL TO ORDER Present: Bacon, Vogt, Schoonover, Felter, and Vakas Absent: Gilmore, and Essex Others in attendance were City Manager, Michael Wilkes, and City Attorney, Ron Shaver, Board of Education Members, Robert Kuhn, Becky Johann, Dr. Stacy Yurkovich, Julie Steele, Clair Reagan, and Olathe School District Superintendent, Dr. Brett Yeager. There were many City and Olathe School District staff in attendance as well. 2. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS, OLATHE MAYOR & OLATHE SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT Mayor Bacon called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. He invited Board of Education President, Dr. Stacy Yurkovich, to say a few words on behalf of the school district. He then invited everyone to introduce themselves and identify the area they serve. 3. OLATHE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE WORKSHOP A. Overview Kim Hollingsworth, Planning and Development Manager, introduced the Elevate Olathe Comprehensive Plan and provided a presentation. She shared why the City believes this is important for the Olathe community and how it ties into the 2040 Strategic Plan. She also noted that there are many connections to the school district's strategic plan. Chet Belcher, Chief Development Officer, provided information about the future land use. He also talked about the growth of Olathe through the decades and how the City has developed and changed with time. B. Project Timeline and Planning Process Page 1 of 2 City Council Meeting Minutes March 24, 2025 Ms. Hollingsworth provided additional information about the timeline of this project and the scope of work. C. Community Engagement Overview Ms. Hollingsworth highlighted the engagement with the community and how feedback was obtained. She said there has been close to 3000 participants in the community survey through a variety of events. D. Communitywide & Subarea Priorities Ms. Hollingsworth facilitated an activity to allow participants to focus on what they believed should be the communitywide priorities for the future. She also asked participants to evaluate subareas and provide feedback on development in those areas that align with the vision of the new comprehensive plan. E. Next Steps Ms. Hollingsworth explained what the next steps will be for moving the Elevate Olathe Comprehensive Plan forward. Mr. Belcher provided additional information about what can be expected in the next few weeks. 4. CLOSING REMARKS Mayor Bacon thanked everyone for attending and thanked the Police Chief, Mike Butaud, for the use of the community room at the police department. He also invited anyone who would like,to tour the new police facility. Dr. Yeager thanked the City for hosting this meeting and providing the Elevate Olathe update. 5.
