PUBLIC SAFETY
Tuesday, October 7, 2025 – 6:55 p.m.
Council Chambers – Olean Municipal Building
Present: Members: Chairman Robinson, Vice Chairman Anastasia, Alderman Bennion, Alderman
Keary, Alderman Forney, and Alderman Crawford. Others: Lens Martial, City Auditor, and Tiffany
Taylor, Managerial Confidential Administrative Secretary.
1. Roll Call
Alderman Robinson called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. and asked that the record show that
all committee members were present except Alderman McCall, who was excused.
2. Approval of Minutes of the Previous Committee Meeting (Tuesday, September 16, 2025)
A motion to approve the minutes of the September 16, 2025 committee meeting was made by
Alderman Robinson, seconded by Alderman Forney. Voice vote, ayes all. Motion carried.
3. Unfinished Business
a. Safety Issues – North 4th Street between West Sullivan and Washington Streets
Alderman Robinson explained striping by the fire hydrant on North 4th street has been approved
by the Mayor so they will be moving forward with that. He e3xplained they are also going to
move the school sign closer to Washington and Laurens Streets, and hopefully these two things
can be done quickly. He explained the Police will also monitor the parking on North 4th Street and
there was a request for the Police Chief and Mayor to install a speed moderator to do a study in
the area, with results being sent to Alderman McCall.
4. New Referrals for Consideration
a. Salvation Army Street Signs
Alderman Robinson explained a Captain from the Salvation Army has requested wayfinding signs
at the intersections of Front Street and Delaware Avenue, and Front Street and East State Street.
He explained they are more difficult to find now that they are not on East State Street. Alderman
Anastasia asked if they will pay for the signs and Alderman Bennion explained they will, they just
want City approval to install them. Ms. Taylor explained she can do a PL and Resolution to
authorize this, but it will be up to DPW to determine if the signs are authorized to be placed on
existing signage or if they need to be placed on their own poles. Alderman Bennion asked that
this PL be put forward.
5. Approval of Committee Reports
None
6. Adjournment
A motion to adjourn was made by Alderman Robinson, seconded by Alderman Keary. Voice vote,
ayes all. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at approximately 7:00 p.m.
