1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Present: 8 - Chair Trent Hart, Co-Chair Ron Hinton, Commissioner Diana
Fairbanks, Commissioner Katie Nelson, Commissioner Michael
Olson, Commissioner Rick Perry, Commissioner Diane Robertson,
and Commissioner Danielle Westbrook
Absent: 2 - Commissioner Marygrace Jennings, and Commissioner Erin
McGown
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Chair Hart asked if there were changes to the agenda. Hearing none, the
agenda was approved.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
13-0926 Approval of October 10, 2013 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes
Chair Hart asked if there were changes to the minutes. Hearing none, the
minutes were approved.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Commissioners shared information on past and upcoming art events.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
13-0807 Nomination Committee for Election of 2014 Officers
The Committee recommends Chair Hart continue as chair for another year and will
contact a Co-Chair candidate before the December meeting.
The item was discussed and continued to the December 12 meeting.

13-0929 Commission Items
2.E Public Art Assessment
Completed.
2.G Comprehensive Plan Update
Chair Hart will have a draft response letter for Council at the December meeting for
Commission review.
2.I Music in Olympia & 2.K Street Designations
Chair Hart and Ms. Johnson met with City traffic engineering staff to determine feasibility.
The Committee feels ready to bring the item to the General Government Committee in
December.
2.J Define Theater District
No report.
2.L City Entry Signs
Chair Hart, Commissioner McGown and Ms. Johnson met with City staff in
Communications and Public Works to determine feasibility. The concept was
well-received, and there are no funds earmarked for repair or replacement in those
budgets.
The report was received.
13-0930 Community Events & Outreach Committee Report
1.2 Area Art Promotion-Social Media
Given the costs of a calendar model, Commissioner Robertson proposed a social
media format for arts organizations to promote their events.
1.3 Music Survey-Phase II
Completed. Commissioner Olson will organize a group to put together a summary of
the Phase II findings, for future use.
1.8 Community Mural Support
Completed. Ideas for flyer distribution include graffiti clean-up kits, commercial
property owners and neighborhood associations.
2.A Arts Walk
Completed. Event surveys were reviewed by CEO Committee. One of the items
discussed was greater promotions - ideas on promoting included milk cartons, utility
flyers, and IT busses.

2.D Art Ambassador Program
Completed.
2.F Arts Day at the Capitol
Completed. Arts Day is coming up again February 5, 2014.

13-0931 Art in Public Places Committee Report
1.4 Public Art Projects
The PW tribute has been removed from its site and is in storage. West Bay sidewalk
has not been awarded yet; working on right-of-way acquisition.
1.6 Community Art Process for APP Review
No report.
1.7 Artspace Market Study Support
Co-Chair Hinton reported the survey will close December 12.
2.H Percival Plinth Project Peoples' Choice
Completed. Next task is to complete design of the City Hall base for temporary art,
then find a permanent site to place Rainforest Dream.
2.M Washington Center Public Art
No report.
2.N Artesian Well Public Art
Completed.
2.O City Hall Sculpture
No report.
